Congratulations to Ash for qualifying second overall (first in his class) and winning both races outright in this weekend’s round of QMN Saloon car club championship! Clapping

Video of the first race courtesy of Mike aka CosmicSpanner: link - great battle with 600+bhp Escort Cossie.

The fastest 306 built on a budget?!

Well done Ash!

The bigger C38 series 'charger he's recently fitted is obviously helping!

Cool

Probably rusted through after a few laps.

It's 409 BHP with a restrictor.

It has the potential for more, but last time I spoke to Ash his view was it's enough for now and any more would probably dramatically shorten the life of the gear box!

Nice one Ash! Cheers

I'm guessing you're running a 5-speed box in that, makes me wonder what mine would go like with a 5-speed box, as the 6-speed is nice, but not really suited to the track, especially a fairly short one like Brands Hatch Indy...Hmm

What happened to the Escort, I never saw it fall off? That 306 has awesome corner exit traction, kept that Cossie back really nicely, not much you can do to offset a 200bhp deficit on a straight though. Well done Ash Smile

Yes budget when you consider other cars that run in 2WD 2L forced induction class and the build cost less than fifth of a BTCC 306. Ash did most of the work on the car himself, including building the engine. Also NUR motorsport been very helpful in supplying the body kit for a very reasonable price.

The Escort lost a wheel on the last lap of the race – stub axle sheared off (if you look carefully at the video of the last lap – you can see it bounce across the track).

During the last mapping session the engine made 390bhp at the wheels or 410bhp at the flywheel. The C38 charger gives much better spread of power and makes the engine less picky compare to C30 so you do not find yourself between gears.

The gearbox is the standard GTi 6 speed with the final drive of 4.05 from an early cars (not intentional – just the one that we had). The ratios are perfect for a track car as close gears allow to keep the engine at the optimal rpm and you can always find the right gear for a corner. Also, do remember that the car runs 615mm outer diameter slicks compare to normal size of 580mm. So at Brands Ash was using 3, 4 & 5th gear.

Second race: link
Not as exciting as first as there was a long safety car period.
