Hi all, just swapped a recently lowered beam with a mate for my standard one, it's down about 60mm but will be raised back up and have vts bars installed, no camber either. I also have birks solidmounts installed. The problem is the beam is not central to the car, it's I think 10mm further to the left than it should be, as the wheels stick further out the arch on the left, which is causing the right arch liner to foul the rim ( 1.2 et15) . We were going to try installing my old rubberised mounts back on to see if it's the mounts that are sqewed but does anyone else have any other suggestions? P.s only the holes on the left hand side of the boot floor mounting points are elongated? What's the point in this?

Ed

I have noticed a few 6's crabbing slightly in the past so will be interested in the outcome.

I reckon you've put one of the mounts on backwards, they're not symmetrical.

i'd drop the beam back down and double check everything to be honest and check the studs for straightness, although they would probably snap at the weld before bending (mine did, twice, so i superwelded them Big grin)

i am guessing you have seen the beam mount FAQ here?

It's only been lowered 5000 miles. No camber no bangs.. Yet it's still a good 10mil out, will have to have it off to investigate

This is exactly what i would do, now that the wheels sit much closer to the arches, anything that may be out of line

will now be more noticable, whereas before, you wouldnt really notice

refit original mounts just to elliminate the solid items

From experience I have seen modified solid mounts where they haven't been welded up properly at the correct position

But that was a one off

only if they've been fitted carelessly! it's just a case of realigning it properly and you'll be fine

nothing to do with the mounts - its to do with the person fitting them. If its 10mm out at one side it's either a manufacturing defect or fitment error

I've took about 50 beams off and messed with mounts all my life since I was a little girl. Standard ones and bakerbm ones. Never had a problem except for my seam welded and solid mounted 306 splitting the mount stud weld due to vibration
