I am doing the clutch this evening on my ph3 and have read some horror stories about people struggling to get the clutch fork lined up on to the bearing.

I found the following from Mei

welshpug! wrote:
follow the destructions which say to remove the arm off the shaft and mark it's position and it goes on first time Wink

Now, I made a start on this the other day and stripped everything off inluding the pin, arm and top bush and just have the bolts holding the box on ready to go back out with my new clutch and whip the box off to fit it.

Hopefully I am not too late with the marking of the arm LOL But as the fork/shaft is still in situ and the box hasn't been loosened at all, can I 'get away' with putting the arm back on top and looking where the pin hole is through the shaft and then marking up?

When the box is ready to go back on, is it a case of lining the arm marks back up so it is in the position it was in previously when the cable was unclipped from it?

This could potentially save me hours of swearing this evening so any pointers greatly appreciated.

When I fitted the gearbox to my J4RS in the 205 it was the simpler case of bearing on to fork which I didn't realise this differed until I opened the clutch box and found the bearing already on the plate.

As long at the clutch plate is central, generally they just take some wiggling to get right.

I agree, certainly in a 306 it does although, things may be different in a 205? Unsure

I raised it because Dan said he left it on and got the box out. I have always found it near impossible to get the box past the subframe on the '6' if you don't remove the housing first.

I have never removed a '6' box from a 205, so I wasn't sure if was easier or not or how much space was available. My guess is maybe slightly less as its a smaller bay but I didn't know for sure. Smile

LOL yeah Mei that's why I put the bit about it being on the ph3 as I thought people would assume it was the 205 one I was doing.

It was a pain to remove in situ, so i'l certainly remove it for putting it back on.

I personally wouldn't fit a '6 box to a 205 anyway. If I did, I think I would just remove the engine and gearbox together in one LOL

Well at least half the job is done now anyway and the clutch is on. I need to wait for the fork bushes to arrive from Peugeot now. Not looking forward to this bearing malarky. I removed the fork and tried to see how it 'clipped' into the bearing and it seams as if it doesn't clip in as such. On the 205 with the 1.6 BE3 box it was a case of clipping it home. I imagine that's where the lining up of it comes in, to get the fork behind the bearing.

There was already a nice green paint line on the arm and top of the fork from when it's been done in the past which may help. Easier said than done with that weight being manouvered at the same time.

Went on first time actually. Fitted the fork bushes and looked at how much movement the arm gave the fork and put it at the angle required for it to push past it. Was lucky not to knock it out of line.

i've got all this to do when i finally whack my box on. it's just sat there doing nothing, all the hard work is done but i just can't be arsed doing it. aside from greasing the splines i wasn't sure the procedure with the release bearing and connecting it to the fork and in what order really. guess it'll make sense when i attach the clutch to the engine and go from there. guess it's a case of just keeping the bearing straight and the arm in place Unsure i put a 2nd hand box on my old 306 and never even had a problem at all, can't honestly remember how it worked considering it all went together first time lucky and i did it in an enormous rush
