If its an air field track day will the track be marked out with cones? If so just go flat out, dont break as there will be nothing to crash into actually just ignore that last bit when i done my 1st track day i didnt know what to expect but give it a couple of laps to get use to the track and the feel of the car on the track then just aim to go a bit faster each lap till you reach a pace you feel happy with. Just watch out for other cars aswell. ________________________________________ Clicky: click here remove the space between [url & = |

I did my first at the weekend.Driver prep, make sure you can fit in the car with your helmet on. If my car didn't have a dealer fit sunroof, my head would have been at a constant angle. Obviously get a decent nights sleep as you will be there for a full day and drink lots of water. But thats obvious. Go for a pee first too. Car wise - make sure the brakes are up to the job, the fluid is fresh and bleed them before hand. Go around underneath and give it a once over and make sure everything is in good orderand tight. Replace bushes and what not if you notice them - but you would anyway. Put some copper slip on the bolts etc and make sure they are torqued up properly. Check your fluids Have you got decent tyres? I noticed one of my road tyres had a chunk out of it the other day when I was moving wheels about, was lucky to notice it for road use let alone if your going to be heating the tyres up more than you do on the road. Check your pressures (cold and hot). Presumably you have a preffered pressure that you like to run? Just give it a once over as you might do before an MOT. You don't want to get there and be needing a vital every day piece which you could have sorted before. Make sure you wear shoes you are comfortable with. Etc etc. ________________________________________ |

what do they usually run at? just make sure they dont go too high.difficult to say specifically especially with cheap tyres like toyos, the sidewalls are little softer so you can't start as low as a proper track tyre. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Boo, was gonna see you there! Woodbridge is awesome, you should get down there sometime as it's so close to you. Just bear in mind airfields are not nice smooth tarmac, they're uneven, rough concrete with plenty of potholes. Much as it's always tempting to cane round as it's your first trackday trying to get some tyre squeal and get the back out, you'll see off a set of brand new tyres in a day easily in cars that heavy. If you've factored that in, fine - go mad. Just something to be aware of, I've known people loon around all day just to have to drive home on illegal tyres as they didn't know how much damage they were doing ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I wouldn't do more than 5/6 laps at a time (in the dry - wet can be longer but think about the oil temps) and let the car cool off. You'll save your tyres and brakes doing that. Don't apply the handbrake when you come in off track. Also do cool down and warm up laps for both you and the car. Be very aware of the amount of tread left on your tyres as you don't want to be driving home on canvas - especially on the inside edge. If you are murdering them think about swapping front to rear.Overall you'll go faster the less you push and the smoother you are. This will also help your tyres. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Thanks for that owain sound advice just what I need, I knew I would kill the tyres but I have forgotten about the drive home, I hav a pair of cheap budgets I took of the car when I got it so I will take them with me as I believe they have a tyre fitter on site!Adam thank for that never would have thought about the handbrake, also I'm sharing the driving with my wife so if I'm allowed to pull in after 10 mins wait 10 to cool down then let her drive the remaining 10 if you are allowed to swap drivers or go back out mid session? ________________________________________ stevie09 308 gt140 cc 03 octavia vrs IF IT AIN'T BROKE, IT AIN'T A GTI6 |

As for swapping drivers it depends on the venue - Woodbridge do have a little concrete slab right where you pull off the track, so you're allowed to swap drivers and go back out - it entirely depends on the layout of the site. Be careful of the on-site changers, they're often not there all day. It's worth getting a spare pair of wheels if you can and taking those with the tyres on, means a change is a five-minute job not an hour waiting for some guy to charge you a fortune to swap tyres. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I'd invest in some track tyres, you will destroy those road tyres, especially if they're new. If you're gonna use road tyres they must be worn otherwise the tread will just fold over. Also, drop the fronts to 25 and the rears to 29 but I really wouldn't use them especially as you will have to drive home on them. ________________________________________ Team "310bhp/tonne"Team "Old Skool Kool" Team "Faster than a standard 6. Good man! You won't regret it. Even if you only take a couple with you and swap front to back, it'll double your driving time and saves you a recovery truck if you puncture a tyre ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

anyone think it's worth swapping brake fluid up to dot 5.1 ? marham has 1 mile straight which will be braking from around 140 to 20!!________________________________________ stevie09 308 gt140 cc 03 octavia vrs IF IT AIN'T BROKE, IT AIN'T A GTI6 |

No, the difference between DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 has nothing to do with the temperatures it can handle. It *is* however worth putting in decent fluid; we used to use RBF660 which is only technically a DOT4, but it's proper race fluid and I've never known it boil. It also depends on your brakes, now I have the complete overkill of the 310mm kit they cool themselves so well I use pikey £5-a-bottle stuff without issue, if you run DS2500s on standard calipers it'll definitely boil in no time. So depends on the car, and you won't know until you boil it. You could always try not going 140 first time on track if you're not sure it's safe ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Why'd is been cancelled? After all our helpful advice? You going to refund us all our time eh?Early trackdays always punish a car, when i got my '6 I ran it completely as it was for the first day to see what needed work; it soon became apparent the suspension was too soft and brakes got hot etc, but until you take the car on track you really can't tell. Book yourself up another track day and go find out what falls off your car first ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

That's the spirit, that's what significant others never seem to understand. "But you've spent loads of money on car parts, now you're spanking more on track days?!" "Well yes, I've spent the money on parts now, it'd be a waste no to cane it around on track" You should take a look at Woodbridge at some point, it's our regular and pretty close to you. Cheap too. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |
