I remember as a kid going to the RAC rally in the Welsh mountains. The crowds weren't as bad as some of those scenes however I remember walking down the stage whilst the cars were still going through. This was during the group B times. I can remember seeing the Lancia S4's, Metro's and pug t16's. But it couldnt carry on the way it was going. It does make you wonder where we'd be if they'd allowed the development to continue tho. ________________________________________ My old man wrote me a letter from prison once. Believe it or not, some marshals make you stand on the outside, over on the manx a few years ago we walked down to a corner wheere an evo had crashed the previous year, it clipped the bank and rolled over the outside of the corner, so we stood on the inside, on a bank about 6ft up off the road, the marshal then proceeded to move us to the outside of the corner where there were still marks from where the evo rolled, round of applause for that one. Had similar situations a few times. ________________________________________ 1999 Gaystone blue '6,1990 sierra cosworth 4x2 |

good program , seen most of the footage before and heard most of the drivers opinions before. Bought back a lot of good memories seeing these magnificent machines. Did remind me how short the grp b era was though and it seemed longer because there was the world championship one week and the uk championship the next. that is the first time though i have ever realised how dangerous the cars were though, never knew the lancia was a bomb waiting to go off.lancia did lok a weapon in its tarmac trim, evil almost. i remember everyone i knew at the time and worked with had an interest in the sport then builders, accountants everyone watched or looked for results on the train into work on a monday if it was not televised. seems almost sterile the w.r.c today. nice to see loeb bin it at the weekend as he almost does not seem human ________________________________________ puglessPhase 1 GTI 6 1996-1997 Subaru Impreza GB270 2007-2008 rare spiderman comics same day international courier |

Thankfully i caught this last night Really good programme, i'd pretty much forgot just how mental both the cars and the fans were. As Ed said, the cars werent the real problem, it was the spectators, why you'd risk standing in front of a 500bhp rally monster is a mystery to me, totally bonkers and im still amazed that there wasnt more spectator accidents than there was. ________________________________________ Pete Sims - R.I.P buddy!PS£ id - onenashy |

I was a spectator at the 1985 RAC rally, in some welsh forest, frozen half to death, as an excitable 11 yr old, was the best rallying i've ever watched. Sounds, sights, smells were nothing like todays cars. In the UK the crowds were a lot smaller and more sensible and appreciated how damned fast these cars were going. I agree the European crowd situations were chronic, but they still are today, you hear of stages being cancelled due to overcrowding of spectators and stuff ________________________________________ 1999 Astor Grey GTi-6 OEM+ (now gone...)2004 Aegean Blue 206 GTi 180 (also gone...) 2006 Skoda Fabia vRS in Sprint Yellow honestly3k wrote: Do you wrestle for a living matt?
