The current membership structure needs changing. I don't think anything was wrong with the original idea - a tenner for membership, a fiver for limited membership or £20 for a "trader" membership for people who would regularly be selling parts, several cars etc. Non-members would have access to a few forums, and if they needed to ask technical questions, would have to sign up. Easy.

As it worked out, this resulted in everyone posting technical questions in the General forum, and hostility between the different levels of membership.

So ... over the coming weeks, I'll be converting the club to one flat membership level. Non-members will still have access to all the information on the forums, but will not be able to post anywhere. Members will have full unlimited access to everything. The standard annual rate for membership is a measly £5.

But I've already paid!
All existing members have two options. Their membership can either be part-refunded, or converted into a longer membership. For example, if you paid £10, I can either convert your membership into a 2-yr membership (2 years @ £5 pa) or refund your 2nd year.

The other benefit is that people wanting to spam the forum with multiple accounts will have to pay to do so. Chances are not so many people will be keen to do that.

The downside is that we'll completely lose people who do not want to pay, which is a regrettable shame.

This solution has been Blah at great length, and is intended to solve problems, but if you're completely unhappy, I'll be more than happy to refund your membership. Pro rata, of course Wink

Unfortunately, the membership levels are tied into every aspect of this site, so will take a while to re-do. Watch this space ...

For current members who have given up all hope and will not be renewing their membership, I'll be adding "PM Export" functionality, so you will be able to export your PMs before losing access to them.

So how do we let you know what we want to do if we've paid for higher membership... Is it by comment here or PM or do you have a different plan?

No plan at the moment, but I'll let you know. Email might be the best idea.

I really can't believe people are not willing to pay the £5 membership! At the end of the day, what's £5? Just have one less mc'meal this year and you have the money!

    As above.

    Are the competitions remaining?

For a bit of clarity, What level of membership is the £5 all round fee going to give.

Does it replace the current £5 benefits such as the 25 PM inbox size, 4 photos in adverts (2 a year limit) or is it going to replace the £20 partner and give 100 PMs, 10 photos in adverts, 10 cars a year and be able to watch threads etc.

I'l check my sofa. I said a long time ago that I would cough up when the site improves. Now that we have more admins, Ash is showing his face more and keen to continue to improve the site and we are going in the right direction again; my hand is rustling.

When the site is more stable and doesn't have the connection issues I will donate. I think that's fair.

Happy to pay membership again. If it stops newbies firing in one add and doing one after. Met some great "car friends" on here. Worth every penny.
