Well I thought i'd stick a ongoing project thread up for my car.

I bought it at 88k from Carl 12th September 2010 and loved it since. Still puts a huge smile on my face, however the suspension has now seen much better days, and now im no longer a student I can treat it a bit.
Here it is as it was when i got it. Since then its had GTI-6 badges on the doors, I've used plastic polish to sort the crystals out and its had new (albeit depo) fogs.

I've done quite a few little jobs to it, New fuel 90 degree pipe (My least favourite 3-4 hours of my life), Attempted and failed fitting the hybrid arb as the tear shape part of the beam was properly fused to the old arb.
Fitted a Crank pulley (Lightened one form rich_w)
The new fogs as said (WHICH WAS A PAIN)
New aerial and base
Bought a new 6 gear nob to freshen up the interior and made myself chocks for the upper mount.
New injector seals
Serviced it several times with Fuchs oil
New radiator mounts
A few new sensors and electrical bits
Fitted Peugeot tweeters in the mirror blanks
Nothing major just many little jobs.

However now im starting to accumulate the stuff I need to completely rebuild the suspension front and back.

As it stands its only going to be left with the uprights and front arb and bushes.

The set up will be as follows
Bits i've got:
New peugeot Top Mounts and bearings
New 79mm bumpstops
New dustcovers for shocks
New Peugeot 306 estate/xsara vts torsion bars (On Back order coming from france monday)
Hybrid arb
Baker BM mounts
Phillip M strut brace
C2R2 Brake adaptors and bolts


Bits I need to get (Trying to get genuine peugeot where I can but if not then lemforder with regards to mushes etc)
Most likely a Bilstein B12 pro kit (Inculdes front B8s and rear b6's with eibach -30mm springs)
A new /Refurbed beam built with the above TB's, mounts and ARB
Peugeot Wishbone bushes (Likely to be the Partner van alloy type) and ball joints (Lemforder)
Lemforder droplinks pending price of genuine.
New track rod ends and rods (Lemforder)

Thought I would freshen up the spoiler with the plastidip I bought the other day,
while i was there I coated the mounts a few times too as well as the hybrid arb.

Nice looking 6 you have there! The finish of that plastidip stuff lookst very good. But on the solid rear beam mounts the stuff will wear of when fitting as it is quite fiddly to put them there. Mine are on the car about 3 months and look corroded like s**t already Sad

Yeah I just used up what I had left really. I'm going to try and get some good rust protecting paint if I can and put that on.

Not much to report really,
Just that ive sorted my door out where some little cretin bas**rd prick (/insert more abuse here..) made the decision to bend the door down purely to move my car out of its space.
Anyway its sorted now and back on form Smile Cheers to Carl and all for the advice on swapping the locks.
Once i got past the fact the clip was on the wrong way round it was very easy indeed.
This means that now i have working windows again and the car doesnt make the worlds loudest wind noise on the motorway i can move forward with the interesting stuff.

SO plan now is:
Sort cambelt (done 23k now and i dont like taking chances Smile)
Then p**s more money on suspension and get it fitted.
All that remains in that respect is literally
wishbones
bushes for wishbones
Top spring cups
and shocks and springs so that the beam can be built.
Sounds like a lot but shouldnt be long I hope.

I'm aiming to sort that lot by september and then I will have a nice platform for supercharging Big grin
Although second the suspension is sorted first port of call will be:

New nissens rad
New rad hoses
New thermostat and gasket
I'll probably fit three new sensors while im there and get the 90degree elbow from a 309? The metal one.
mocal oil cooler and possibly a new heat exchanger
I think my heat exhanger is on its way out tbh as the oil will go past 90 pretty quick when you press on

Not much to report, Still waiting on the money for the shocks and springs and due to that cant get my beam built yet Sad which is a shame.

However i've picked up some miles gear rods which should do me for a while Smile

Since the above the hg seems to be playing up early signs but something isnt right.
As i was going to get the belt done anyway (its on 26k now) with help from stan welshpug etc i have decided to accumlate all of the parts to change the gasket and the belt.
Which is a pain. ButI think i'll feel a lot better when its sorted.
Aside from that, Somehow i still have money at the end of this month , which means bilsteins are on the cards for next month too Smile
Which means it should be MINTY MINT by about october....

Literally want to shoot this car with a f**king huge shotgun at the moment
The exhaust is really f**ked now.
The rear mounts are f**ked
The cooling system is pretty f**ked
the wishbone bushes are f**ked.

I'm not sure im going to have the time to do anything myself now, I may be forced to just put it in the garage and be absolutely shafted..

Fairly standard for the oil temps to rise when pressing on bud. Mine rises when i really open the taps but it soon drops back down to below 90oC when i back it off again. If yours it getting dangerously high though then it could be due to your dicky cooling system.

Even when flat out mine won't pass 120oC and the danger point isn't until 150oC iirc.

Hmmmmm.

Well the cooling system from the rad is connected to the oil cooler in a return so that should be more than capable of keeping things cool. I have the nissens rad and no AC condensor so airflow to the rad is a million times better. Also what oil grade are you using? How old is your coolant? Are the sensors all ok? Jut a few things to think about before you get messy with the heat exchanger Smile

Coolant needs changing really, its 26k old
My rad is a bit s**tty tbh and im using 10w50 fuchs

Nope its just that I rag the s**t out of it so I figured I might as well get an oil that is strong when hot.
The cams look very well for it too when you pear through the oil filler at one Razz

I would've thought 50 would've been to thick to cover everything in oil that needs it quick enough? I uses total quartz 9000 5w40 fully synthetic as I to like to stretch the old girls legs Wink

Tbh i was thinknig of swapping to the 5w40 soon anyway. (they do the same oil in that grade)

Basically its just a metal replacement for the s**tty plastic elbow that connects to the thermostat
