What about people new to the Forum who don't perhaps know what NSFW means? (Agreed, unlikely, but needs to be some consistancy to the banning)I did think the new rule was zero tolerance. ________________________________________ |

Peugeot 106 GTi's all round/buggered GTi-6's?! It was a cracking episode, and I hoped the 6 driver would be on here, but as a regular golf player and a regular drifter (which is probably the cheapest motorsport there is), I can tell you that unless you are taking a flight to play at St Andrews with gold plated clubs every week, motorsport is considerably more expensive. A round of Golf, including driving there and a couple of pints after, costs me about the same as half a tank of fuel in my driftcar. Thats without the £70-150 entrance fee, another two tanks of fuel, tyres and tyre changing costs, food ........ and before you start on breakages or upgrading equipment ________________________________________ Lots of Nissans, two 306 GTI-6's. yeah Rallycross is good fun cheap way into motor sport you can buy a ready prepared stock hatch for upwards of £1500 and off you go, great fun. Cars sometimes come up cheaper than that I bought an xr2i rallycross car off ebay for £600. |

Fwiw, we generally plan on £500 per weekend for racing with the buggy, that's fuel, food, entry fees, etc. That doesn't include repairs and upgrades though. Nor the big outlay for safety kit to get you started. And we generally get a whole lot longer out of tyres than the rallycross/circuit boys as the compounds are rock-hard to stop the tyres getting ripped to shreds. ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. A large chunk of that must be taken up with the fuel for trailering the thing around to events is it not? Or are you not including that in the £500? ________________________________________ |

Yep, fuel to get there is a fair chunk of money, people usually forget they need a tow car, trailer and fuel too.Even if you're entering stock hatch or similar and intended to drive there and back - it'd be a pain to keep it road legal, plus the cost of tax, getting insured and be able to drive it there. And if you damage it you ain't going home until it's fixed. It can be done on the cheap, just go into it with your eyes wide open for the cost of the initial outlays before you can actually get racing! ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. I still maintain my initial guesstimate of 10k is about right. Purchase a car, prepare it, trailer it, spares, fuel, entry fees, licence, helmet , fireproof suit, repairs 10 k in the first season easy and once you become competitive i doubt the bill comes down much. ________________________________________ puglessPhase 1 GTI 6 1996-1997 Subaru Impreza GB270 2007-2008 rare spiderman comics same day international courier |

I'd say that's about what it's cost us for the buggy for it's first season inc. building it.________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Well I'm definitely building the 306 into a rally cross car Nothing stopping me using it for track days too Now who can Advise on a sensible tow car? We have a Mitsubishi outlander 2007, that should do!! ________________________________________ Rich E wrote: With the 306 Rallye the goal wasn't to make a purer or more focussed car. (as do most things in life right now ) [rant over/] Well said Chris. Juvenile is definitely the word. And before anyone else jumps in with the "oh lighten up" comments, remember that most search engines classify websites not just by their own content but also by the sites they link to. Ash has already pointed out that we've been black listed by Google once. We do not want a repeat of that. We'll probably never agree about the social networking value of the site, but surely you can see that anything that ruins the site for others or prevents its being listed on search engines is completely counter produtive. From now on any hardcore links like this will be removed and the poster permanently (and I don't mean "until we get over it") banned. Yeah Ed, these rules are buried in a random thread somewhere, its not actually on the forum guideline pageAnd besides which doesn't compare to Meatspin, Japanese porn F1 is not a "hardcore link like this". Having said all that, I'm probably only still here because admin haven't seen it... |

Purchase a car, prepare it, trailer it, spares, fuel, entry fees, licence, helmet , fireproof suit, repairs 10 k in the first season easy and once you become competitive i doubt the bill comes down much. Not far off, I reckon. For me - Process of getting license (go racing pack, medical, ARDs test, license) £450 (£41 for rallycross non-race license) "Race" car £1700 Minor preparation £100 Tow car £1500 (specially chosen to pull the) Trailer £1200 (plated at just enough to get a car and kit on so I didn't exceed the 3.5t gross train weight tow limit without the license entitlement) Club and championship reg fees £150 approx Wheels and sets of slicks and wets approx £800 Safety kit (helmet, suit, gloves, boots, FIA belts) £400 £6300 to pay another £200 to pose in the paddock and wonder why the hell a 125bhp Nova is even allowed on the same track as a WRC-spec EsCos. For a seasons worth of entries (approx £2k) plus more tyres and buying track and transport fuel and other consumables, and keeping sweet the people helping get you out there, £10k is a damn good estimate. That's without repairs, though, and the desire to go faster. After my first race I needed some gear-linkage repairs (not expensive, but took time and arm-twisting of volunteers) and dropped over a grand on suspension and set-up. And testing, which is not far off the cost of a race day. Or buying a house on the basis of it having a double-length and extra-wide garage! Hopefully that's a reasonable idea of how much it costs (not just money, but time and effort) to do this. I haven't raced in over 4 years, and have only managed one trackday since then. I still have a track car, because it's in the blood now. I'm constantly planning what I would do if I had the money ("sprints, mainly" - extra credit if you can name the film that's from), and if my little girl hadn't come along 4 years ago I'd probably be out there selling off non-essential body parts to fund the habit. The urge I felt to do it (and escape from a very dreary office life) caused a lot of stress, and was one of the main reasons for losing a couple of very good friends and having a near-enough mental breakdown.
