My 6 has been off the road for about 3 year now due to having a company car. Been stored at my parents garage but their moaning at me to get it shifted now. Have space down side of my gaff so plan on getting a car cover and sticking it there.

So need to move a SORN car about 4 mile down road. Whats my options?? Can I towbar it using my company car? Car would pass an MOT so is safe on the road, but I'm sure Mr Plod wouldn't approve me driving it, even if I boxed it in with mrs in front and parents behind in their cars.

I think you would have to trailer it. Dont think your even allowed to tow without some test/insurance.

is it insured? if so, you can drive it LEGALLY to and from an MOT, and to carry out MOT repairs

if you have a trailer, do that. but if you are struggling, you can drive it to an MOT and back home, without limit on distance, BY LAW, or to carry out MOT repairs

Needs to be insured if towing/dolly, trailers best bet although if it was me I'd chance the 4mile trip

We all know what the "right" thing to do is, but I'm with Chris, I'd probably risk it.

That is, unless you have access to a trailer.

My only concern would be to be involved in an accident, rather than plod stopping me due to tax/insurance/mot.

If any of the wheels touch the ground, it has to be legal with tax, test and insurance. So you can't tow or dolley it.

Trailer. Or as ricky says, get day cover insurance and book an MOT at a garage past your house and cancel when you get it home.

Do you have AA relay cover? You could break something..

    Main roads or back roads? See many ANPR equipped police cars near you? I'd insure it for a day and chance it.

    just insure it and book it in somewhere for an MOT, then drive it home. if you get pulled, you're on your way to an MOT. simple

    LOL good point! But I need to clear out some stuff from side of my house first and buy a cover.

    Think I'll just drive it with mrs in front in her car and parents behind me in theres. Its through a housing estate and small town so chances of a cop being there are extremely slim! Wasn't sure whether I could tow it or not, clearly not.

    I agree chances are you'll be fine. However my mate did the same, under a 10 mile trip, got about a mile and a half way down the road and got pulled. He already had points for speeding and therefore he was banned for 6 months. As said you'll probably be fine but it's food for thought! I don't think I'd risk it, rely too heavily on driving on a daily basis. These were quiet roads too with little cop presence but there's always a chance!

    Lol @ dead and rotted. The only thing dead on it is the battery. I start it every few months with a battery starter, pull it out my folks garage and leave it running half hour. Starts fine, idles fine and drives up and down my folks drive fine. Storing a car in a dry garage is hardly gonna result in it rotting lol

    I have a similar issue, planning on getting my 6 back on the road for April after spending the last year and a half under cover.

    I was planning on borrowing a dolly to tow it from mine to do a few jobs on it prior to MOT, is that definitely not legal? Unsure

    if it is SORN then no wheels can touch public road. simple

    no tax = not on road. one wheel or four wheels. not on the road

    however common sense would dictate that really the police would have to be in a shit mood to 'do you' for towing it or dollying it when it's SORN

    given you can drive it to and from MOT's without MOT or tax i think you'd be covered to say you're taking it for MOT repairs anyway [aslong as it's insured]

    Day insure it

    Book at MOT that's near your place.

    Pull into your new place - cancel MOT test.

    Some police people are always in a shit mood - what's a day insurance price to it being seized/points blah blah
