I run a decat straight through to a stainless back box but I want some pops and bangs. It's an unknown make back box so do you think this is why it doesn't pop or bang?. Enlighten me with your knowledge Big grin

I run a Devil Decat, straight through centre section and 4" Magnex backbox.

It simply can't stop popping and banging. LOL

How big is the backbox? Unsure

It is true to say, the decats do take a while of "bedding in" before they really start popping and banging all the time. Yes

Maybe give it a few more miles, and also see if you can sort out the restrictvie inlet setup. Smile

I have a spare working icv if you need one. I found heatwrapping the exhaust manifold made my old 106 pop a lot more, not sure if it makes any difference on the Gti6/Rallye lump

I've got no cat on my 205 GTI6 and get no pops or bangs, and that's with a standard exhaust. Shame, although I think I'd only like the pops and not the bangs!

its the management that causes the noises, not the exhaust.

i have got two different maps from RichW
think one was revision 3 and the newer one i have is revision 4

revision 3 spat out flames if i rev'ed the right way
revision 4 seems to pop a lot less and i really have to try

i had my decat on for near a year before i heard any pops when my engine was standard
probably best it doesnt pop, i always end up scaring the shite out of people

Yeah people don't like it when you change gear going past them and you get flames out the back. Especially not out of a Volvo Devil

Welshpug does have a point though, I am sure the mapping on my DTA ECU has a lot to do with the amount it pops and bangs, as it didn't used to be anywhere near it when I was running the re-mapped 1AP unit on high boost with the same exhaust setup. Yes

As Mei says, it's a lot to do with the management, and down to mapping, the 106 GTi TU5 engines on IAW management pop and bang like hell on the overrun yet GTi6s don't seem to anywhere near as bad and they are IAW 1AP.10 also...

Mattyrallye has a customised longlife now and pops bangs and flames. But it didnt really do it with old 3" magnex so the exhaust must make some difference.

I think overall maybe we can come to an agreement that its management and zorst together. But surely every standard 6 Ecu regardless of p1/p2/p3 has the same mapping yet some will pop and bang and some wont.

I'd have said normal Unleaded would pop/bang more?

The higher Octane means that Super would explode less easily due to heat/compression...

I'm not 100% on that though, there's probably a reason that causes Super to do it more...
