Stan, I do worry that you will go blue in the face trying to make changes happen - and ultimately could give up when the reality of no change becomes apparent. I would hope not due to change being allowed - which I can't see. Perhaps some of us have given up. Perhaps rightly so.________________________________________ |

simonjames wrote: Yes maybe also have a newbies section so members can register and post in (to be welcomed) before paying up for membership ?? I for one really dislike motoring forums that allow prospective paying members to see so very little before they pay and realise it's too late. It's why I love it here. I got the oppurtunity to realise there is no point in paying with the current situation. The people that did pay, well look what's happened. Quite rightly bitter. There is a 3 word phrase that Jsoulman keeps for special occasions. Middle one being 'the'. ________________________________________ |

People have been trying since September. I stand by you in that comment, and fair play. But I still worry it will end up in a towel being launched. ________________________________________ |

nice thread. Lots of top people and good info. Shame most of the top people hardly post anymore because of the negative banter and repetitive spam. This forum does need to go back to old school how it was before membership and changes imo but what do i know. I'm the biggest prick on here right? Dan - Prospective members would be able to see the whole forum though and being able to make up their own mind. They just wouldn't be able to create an account and post without doing so.The site would still be free as read-only, one advantage of this is prospective members could search for technical answers they needed instead of posting up the same questions without searching first. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

This. Very important to be able to read, else search engines can't find you. It also means people will have to pay, or have to search. Either way, it's for the best for the forum. Other thing is it'd need to be easy and immediate to pay - at the moment people have to have their payments manually approved by an Admin, which takes forever when the admins are made of fairy dust and dreams. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Stan, I wouldn't go so firm on it with as many 'it would' 'you can' 'they will' etc.Ash may not appreciate having 90% of the active members now expecting that to be the way with a price structure if that format gets banded around in each of these threads. Have you been in talks with him? I read somewhere about you becoming an Admin, although that again could have been someones suggestion. If he doesn't want you to be admin, we are all going to be writing this in another thread, for the 8th time, next month. I realise you say all your points are only ideas, but can come across to people as expectations. If Ash wanted it to be like we all keep writing about, he would take it on board and make the changes, but he hasn't, and might actually not if truth be told. We need to be realistic in the fact that any of this may never happen. As I have mentioned before, Ash selling up would sort the issue if we are honest. If Admins are going to take over the writing of code, making changes and pricing etc, will Ash have much of an interst in it? He hasn't had for the last 6 months. I just think we shouldn't forget that unfortunately this site may have lost what it was, and in current owneship may never return to that. ________________________________________ |

Trust me, you don't want to use off-the-shelf software. Whenever a vulnerability gets found out, people can easily Google for people using it and hack the hell out of your site before you get a chance to update it (you have been keeping on top of your code updates, right?). They're also a nightmare to add features too. And they're slow. Write your own and all the suggestions people have made with regards to listing thread reports, marking for-sale threads as SOLD, moving threads between sections are all two-minute jobs. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |
