hub carriers inc bearing circlip and drive flange is 220 nowadays, bearings are £75, drive flange £90

Yeah I'm changing mine as there are 3 out of the 4 bolts that hold the brakes on using helicoils and two started to work their way out when I changed my brakes over the weekend. So might aswell get new hubs for piece of mind.

£220 , I thought it would have gone up...Sad

I am hoping that having bought them only 3 years ago and the fact that the car hasn't done that many miles on them that I don't have to pay out for some new ones anytime soon. Yes

if you need a new drive flange just get to a scrappy and rob a hub off anything but a base model 306 xsara etc, even 406 flanges are the same.

or find a member on here with one they don't need, though I think ECP/carparts4less can supply, just make sure its not at £9 as you might as well buy direct from pug/citroen.

edit, not a bad saving...

If you're talking about a front wheel bearing then yes. As Mei says, you will a press although what some people do is to remove the hub at home and then take it to a garage along with the new bearing and get them to press it in. Most garages would charge about a tenner to do it, doesn't take long either. Wink

done two on my estate the other week, hardest part was getting the old circlip out
i left my ABS sensors in place and just unplugged them
we had heat via gas to help getting old circlip out, and large press at work to remove old bearing

had to use a welder on old bearing sleeve as old bearing didnt come out in one piece
Possibly my own fault

never doing a set of them again, what a c**t of a job LOL

This sounds like what happens every time I try to do a job and save cash I end up with something stuck or sheared, spend way to much time on it, then end up making a trip to my local garage to have it put right LOL

Sometimes wish I'd never started the pigging job. I suppose that's the problem with been self employed during a quite patch. You start doing jobs to save cash when you should be trying to find more work.

I thing I'll leave the bearing to a professional with lifts and heat tools Smile

I bought new rear hubs for mine as they come with the bearing already fitted...they were £100 a side though. Shock

As for the fronts, I bought new hubs which also came with bearings already pressed into them. Yes
I am sure other bearing manufacturers are just as good like SKF etc, and probably a lot cheaper. Yes

Have you got a thread somewhere on your cars build?Thumbs up

With the high boost SC and all these expensive new parts you fitted I would like a lookWink

Why do jobs on mine never end like this? My near side wheel bearing went on a trackday at snetterton, drove home then my mate took the hub to his work (BMW dealers in Harrogate) it took half a day 20 tonne on the press with the reliefs lifting and oxy bottles to get the bearing out so be warned! Roll eyes

I've found the hardest part of changing wheel bearings is usually getting the bloody circlip out if they have corroded in.

The last bearing i pressed out took 13 tonnes then went bang and spat the ball bearings out everywhere. Laugh

the last 2 i have tried have been a nightmare, the circlips come out easy enough but with 20 tonne of pressure the bearing was still stuck solid. In fact the hub itslef was bending. Easier to fit a good used hub
