The car's developed a vibrating/rumbling noise from the 'front' of the car and I don't think it is engine or exhaust related as it's only heard when the car is moving (not idling). It doesn't disappear when you dip the clutch and gets louder the faster you go. It does quieten slightly when I turn left and the weight shift to the drivers side.

Is this a wheel bearing problem?

Could be wheel bearing or worn cv joint.

If no one minds in a spot of casual thread hijacking..

I've had my Rallye for 4 years or so now, its on about 134k meaning (worryingly) I've put nearly 70k miles on it. In this time its not had any new wheel bearings. Is this unusual? They're not grumbling or anything but is it something that I should be mindful of??

They will usually give you fair warning that they're on their road out...by rumbling, which will get progressively worse. I'd been driving about on mine for about two weeks before I could get around to changing it. Unless you've got spare cash, you'd be better just hanging on until they give you bother

I see.

Still something I wouldn't personally do myself to be honest.

I ran around in my meridian for thousands of miles on f*cked wheel bearings.

Not something i would really recommend but yeah they slowly got worse and i decided now was the time to get them sorted.

It was more of a case of finding time to get them done for me. As the meridian did mega miles every week! She was a fooking trooper that car Love

What is it with people simply driving around in cars that are not fit for purpose...

Would you board an airliner that had a problem with it's engines but would "probably" be ok for another 50,000 air miles?? Crazy

Same here mate, I can't hear naff all on mine with the Magnex churning away. LOL

It always gets extensively checked before any big event, like a long road trip or a trackday etc...

I bought new rear hubs for mine as they come with the bearing already fitted...they were £100 a side though. Shock

As for the fronts, I bought new hubs which also came with bearings already pressed into them. Yes
I am sure other bearing manufacturers are just as good like SKF etc, and probably a lot cheaper. Yes

Do you know how much the Front hubs were? Got a set at £30 each plus the £45 for the new wheel bearings (SNR from euro car parts) wonder if it's much more to buy new hubs?

I believe each hub was £200 from Pug, this was 3 years ago though, they are probably dearer now. Sad
The only reason I changed them was because one of the wheel bolts threads was damaged so I wanted a new hub and so I bought a pair so the bearings would be the same age.
