I know theres no Pug content but its quite a rare old car nowadays and theres a few RS fans on here as well.
Its a 1983 Escort RS 1600i which Marks owned for 17 years (man and boy lol), and its current guise is very track biased with a 220bhp Dunnell built n/a 2.0 Zetec on webber throttle bodies.
Marks had trouble with setting suspension up on it recently, and i'm afraid has listened to various forum "experts" and had got to the point of it being very unstable. Having trackday'd a S2 RS turbo for years myself, he wanted my opinion on setup, so i did a fair bit of driving - Im the fatter one in the black helmet LOL!
No denying its a fast old car, he's running 2.5 degree's neg camber on the front, 2.0 neg on the back and its very low on gaz gold coilovers all round. 6 link rear suspension with MEF adjustable tie rods etc etc etc.
Turn in is mega agressive, once in the corner its unstickable (on full dunlop slicks) however on the corner exit, when the wheel centres, the car has a proper twitch, either left or right, and the straight line stability is horrid.
Ive advised to raise the height up, back the camber off to 1.5 on the front and 0.5 on the rear and to soften the spring rates up - on 350lb fronts at the mo.
despite the "issues" we had a laugh and it was quite nice to be back behind the wheel of an old Ford RS. Quite a physical car to drive and its very much a scruff of the neck motor, but its fast and we wasted quite a lot of cars yesterday. I even made Mark sick after one session - always a good sign you've been trying!!
Any suspension boffins on here think im along the right lines?
Some pics for you -
Awaits the Ford haters....
