Meh, kinda. I think if Ash isn't interested in it he should just hand it over to someone who's still passionate about it and wants to run it. I've always been a big supporter of Ash, had lots of private email discussions with him about the hosting and such when it was moved, but it's clear he has other priorities, and that's fine; I completely understand why he wouldn't want the hassle and doesn't need to be b*tched at, so let someone else do it. It's not exactly a massive money-spinner in its current form (and I very much doubt it will be come renewal time) so it's not like he'd be losing his job.

Exactly this happened with the old Coupe club I was on - a load of the admins had a falling out and the admin shut the whole thing down, purely out of spite. Another site started up, but had to start re-building archives of build threads and technical discussion, and it was a lot of effort because people couldn't be adults about the whole thing. It was of no benefit to anyone, just the outcome of petty bickering between those in charge.

I completely agree that Ash probably doesn't need this site in his life, but I don't think that's good enough reason to shut it down out of spite, surely it'd be better for everyone to see someone passionate about the cars and site in charge?

Well that was part of the problem with the coupe one, people were pretty f*cked off that they'd spent years building up a knowledgebase just for it to go to pot and not have access to it any more. I know I don't really know what I'm doing but I can take a bucketload of photos, and I've had a few people say how useful my build thread is just from that point of view.

If suddenly the site was just shut down / readonly'd, I think a fair few people would be pretty p*ssed, largely because it'd be pointless.

Thats kind of silly though, he should just sell it or give it to someone who actually cares about it.

maybe he needs to integrate another car/models into the forum.
They re a dying breed, more get broken than sold now, so members will just become less and less, I'm just thinking of the future of the club, maybe it should be gti+rally club instead of 306 gti+rally eg.

Then it becomes the same as every other pug forum on the web.

The place gets overun with mugs and their f*cking DTurbo's as it is, we don't really need any more.

A fair few "normal" people sign up each week, not sure how many hang around but those that do seem to intergrate quite quickly.

I think in that respect it's fine. Thumbs up

Thing is many non-owners hung around before because of the banter and to offer advice, as soon as they were told they had to pay for the privilege they sensibly did the off.

People will hang around, but only if there's something worth hanging around for.

Is he expected to pay just for his normal account, or all his trolling accounts too?

Have you Pm'd or Emailed Ash? He's usually pretty good replying that way..

Looking at the thread I'm guessing you are on about I would be trying to get my money back if he's gone quiet, it may all be legit but 2 weeks is long enough to give someone the benefit of the doubt Imo.

+1 i think a little patience might be needed? as kev said a list or shortlist of some sort has been sent to ash so lets just sit back and wait and see i;m sure a couple of regular mods to help out now and again would be a step in the right direction. Yes
