2 rallyes, good man! I have 2 and a half rallyes! lol

would be interested to see if someone has copied my 306! I know the is a more greener on in the castle combe race series, but one almost the same as mine is not good!

You're not going to be happy next year when I've hopefully got mine sorted, as yours is a copy of mine, and mines the real deal! Stop racing your imitation car and get out in the real thing!

No

where you hoping to race?

as long as its not in the tin tops with me!

Thinking of painting the red one yellow aswell, hence why I asked about buying your shell?!

will be testing the proper one tomorrow so will know then if the engine and gearbox are ok then hope to use it at Donnington if all is well! And hopefully after Mallory I can loose my novice cross so will start with the proper one without it!Smile

but as you know the proper one is a lot of hassle to use, its not just a jump in and go car. its an expensive car to run and use! Im worried about breaking it which makes me wonder why I have got it! I cant really afford to run it!
hence why I keep going out in the fake one as thats nice and easy but then its never going to win, so would have to spend loads on it and then think well got the other one sit there with all the right bits on!
like you I thinking of toneing the other one down a bit to make it more user freindly and reliable.

so welcome to my crazy worldCrazy

No, both down in Kent at the moment while I'm at home. The road car will be back up there in late Sept when I start Uni again.

I'd love an ex-BTCC car, unsurprisingly funds don't allow it at the moment!

I'd only seen it in a programme where it also had a yellow bumper and it looked pretty similar!

Sorry Carl but yes I'm hopefully racing in the tin tops. Was supposed to be last year, and this year but due to numerous engine f**k up's I can't afford too. Hopefully next year I'll have a decent engine. Everything else on my car is sorted now, suspensions been overhauled by Penske which wouldn't have cost too much except for they fronts needed new roller bearings which were £150 each, and because of that they needed re-chroming and machining, came in at £800 for a service of 2 shocks LOL

Then I bought new Penske rears at £1500/pair. New DTA management (EFi stuff is good but f**k paying £500 for a comms cable!) and Race Technology data logging with 4 camera video feed (Pi stuff is old and f**ked).

Everything else is fine, I have the tech drawings for the p-bushes, ARB's etc etc so can get those made up if I need too.

Just want to remove and check/rebuild the rear beam but I have a new tube with bearings ready to go so that shouldn;t bee too bad, then a new engine!

When did I say I don't like the yellow?! I love the yellow, think its ace! Was surprised Andy painted his white, the bright yellow is miles better. Won't be stickering it up like yours, I'll be trying to find some sponsorship so will sticker it up to suit...

Well after test my BTCC one today at Snetterton it seems it needs an engine rebuild!

Used 3 litres of oil in the morning and got black flaged after lunch as it was smoking so bad!

oh well, now the fun begins! Sad

Lol, thats how my problems started! First trackday I did used loads of oil, sent it off to be rebuilt and have only completed one trackday since! Any idea whats causing it? Whats the oil pressure like? If its just a rebuild it won't be too bad, probably £1k-£1500, mine needed new pistons and stuff so cost nearer £2500. Got any idea whos going to do it for you, or you going to do it yourself?

I started getting oil pressure alarms but put that down to the oil becoming low, no idea why its burning so much oil but guess its rings.

After our chat before no idea who to trust to do it and also have been told through the grape vine that it my not be the engine it should be, and that its a 405/406 super t engine or something like that after the original one blew?

for now Im going to stick it back in the corner and worry about it over the winter, but like you Im tempted to put a toned down verson in it but that does sort of spoil its apeal? its still goes bloody well thats the annoying thing, and the standard 6 speed gearbox held up really well, and seem to be better the the old one for me, the gearing was much better for Snetterton anyway.

Im a bit dissappoint to have only done 2 track days in it and have got a broken gearbox and a broken engine?!

I didn't know you'd broken the gearbox? Was that the 5 speed Pugsport dog box? I broke mine too and bought all the remaining gears Longmans had. I have quite a lot of gears now, more of some than others mind, so let me know what you need. I've also rebuilt mine myself so know how they go together, after plenty of so called 'experts' couldn't work it out...

If it is a supertouring engine then thats possibly good news, as they were much more modified than the production engines, titanium valves, much wilder cams and roller bearings under the springs etc, although I wouldn't like to say how much it would cost to rebuild one! I thought the ST engines were all MI16's anyway so should be easy to tell?

Yeah, I was dissapointed to do 1 track day then rebuild, then one more and engine failure, then another and gearbox failure, then another and engine failure, then another that went well, and then another and engine failure!

The cars are fantastic to drive, thats why I can't bring myself to sell mine. I do think the Pugsport tarmac box I have and a not overly tuned engine are the way forward. Although I can't see why an engine shouldn't last if it's built with the relevant clearances etc

Only way is to build it yourself or pay thousands to a real pro with a good track record.

I did the latter, several times, and each with the same results... Thumbs down

Personally I would re-built it yourself Carl, you obviously know a considerable amount about engines etc. Its not like your going to be porting the head and stuff, just replacing the worn out bits.

might be stuck rings from not being used?

you could at least strip it down to find the issue, that bit is easy.

as Pete said the ST's in 405's used the MI heads, as did the 406's, dont know if all 406's did, like the Maxi most used the MI head but very late ones had the RFS heads (or at least looked like one, might have been LFY 1.8 heads!)

Pete, yeah the gearbox blew the last time I used it, it broke all the selectors. Its got a Drenth box in it Im told.
Mei dont think its a stuck ring as the problem started the same time as the gearbox blew, it started smoking a few laps before I lost gears last time out but I thought/hoped it was just were the oil had come out of the box and gone on the exhaust, up till the point it had been totally fine.

Looking at the engine it looks totally like a GTi-6 RFS engine, the head is I pretty sure, but was told Matt had blowen the original 306 one at Brands and got the engine thats in it now out of Peugeot Sport uk just before they closed, and that it was a better 406 lump I think but trying to find this out?

I tempted just to have a go myself as really its just and engine with pistons so cant be that hard as long as its timed up 110% and built totally clean!
