They look too small on standard ride height, but look pretty much perfect with a 30 to 35mm drop.

Have a look in the Wheels & Tyres forum. There have been loads of photos posted in the past.

Why would you put 50 profile tyres on it? They're the wrong size Dunno

Seriously, if you're going to drive a hot hatch then surely scrimping on tyres is a bad choice, they can't be that much more.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Michelin PE2 £92.40 vs £56.30

Not much difference...

LOL
Just £160 over 4 corners difference!
Dont bother with 55's they are too wishy washy in my opinion, they roll too much in cornering, i sometimes even think 50's sidewalls arent strong enough but i think thats just a Rainsport 2 tyre for you...

Anyway heres a couple of pics.

50 profiles on a 30mm all round drop

40-50mm drop all round roughly IIRC

Also my daily car, with speed bumps everywhere let alone pot holes, and its as smooth as when its standard height. Its all about the cheap coilovers I've got as have many others IMOThumbs up

I have 50's on for the stiffer side wall, i hate wishy washyness. (Really hate Rainsport 2's even in 50 profile).

Seriously, you drive a GTi-6 and you're worried about an extra £160 for the correct parts? Even at £93 per tyre that's still not much money for tyres.
I know there are a few conflicting opinions on this but 50 profiles are the wrong size plain and simple and I think people just look for reasons to justify saving cash....I personally think 50's make the car feel awful and they look ridiculous.....but that's just me Thumbs up

I've gone from 45s (too small I know) to 55s and agree that the 55s are too spongy, I don't feel confident at all driving my boat now, looks like I will be going for 50s next

What tyres are you using with 55 profile?

I have some Rainsport 2's in 50 and they are terrible for sidewall wishy washyness. I have PE2's in 50 profile on my other car and they are great.

To be honest im not overly impressed with Rainsport 2's now ive had them on for a while.
I mean, as opposed to the standard Pirelli P6000's, they are fantastic but i find the sidewalls a bit too soft so they flex under hard cornering, and wet grip isnt anything to write home about, i always wheel spin when dropping the hammer in first and sometimes second, even when its only mildly damp.

For the price of £34 per tyre though they are great.

I might try something else when they have worn down.

RS2's proving to last forever! Done about 7K in them so far and about 5mm left still!

Admittedly they are winter tyres so I do expect them to be alot softer but I'm driving like a grandad and they still feel too soft, but to be fair in the deep standing water today they were fantastic, no aqua planing or pulling at all. I was impressed

They are tosh in my opinion. I got 4k miles out of the fronts and 7k miles from the rears. Plus the sides walls started to collapse and the rear left tire was a mess...
I now use PE2's and they are better in every way except the price, which in a 50 profile still aint bad. Smile
