The new ecu has been fitted and wiring loom has been redone.

I brought a base map from a member on this forum, but how do i get the base map from the computer to the ecu.

I no i need a plug, but i mean do i need a special program to do this.

Any help would be greatly appriciated, just want to get it started now!!!!

you're no good at searching then, the manual and wiring diagrams are all on there!

you need a 9-15 pin serial cable, and a suitable USB-9 pin adapter if you haven't an old ish laptop.

I didn't need to look, I knew it was on there from researching my S40 some time ago Big grin

Have you read chapter 12? Wink pretty simple tbh Smile

If you need to speak to someone more familiar with DTA, on this forum I only know of Sandy Brown.

What were you planning after installing the base map? I certainly would not drive it too far, definitely not if you haven't a Wideband lambda.

you wouldnt know if it was running lean and melting or rich and bore washing, aka disaster potential massive.

could of course just get it mapped straight away

All the software you need is easily available on the dta site. You can download the dta software, then plug your pc into the ecu, and load the map. If you are feeling brave you can re-map as well.

As said you need to make or buy the lead to connect pc to ecu, and your pc needs on old RS232 type connector( or you need a usb to rs232 adapter)

wide band lambda shows you how far out the fuel mix is at any time. To rich and you will get crap economy and risk bore wash etc. To lean and you will melt pistons etc. If the base map is good, then you could drive on it forever( but more performance will be gained with a engine specific map)

Yh that is the base map, was that a good map when you had it?

No I don't think I will be brave enough to re-map it myself.

Will go lead hunting Monday nd see what I can source.

Would you recomend getting a wideband lambda then?

Cheers for all the help guys its much appriciated!

If the base map you have is the same one that I got with yippeekayay's ecu, then it runs a bit rich on a standard engine with jenvey 45s and a longman inlet. It is a very good base map though, and the timing is almost spot on for a standard engine with a de cat.

It should not take a good mapper very long to get that map spot on for your car.( watch out for the rev limits though, they are set to high for a standard engine!!!!)

Thanks velar! Thumbs up

Yh i have got jenevey 45s' and a longmans inlet manifold.

Did it run dangerously rich or just slightly, just wondering? I am not planning on driving it far before getting it mapped, just to test its running ok.

Very difficult to advise, as each engine is different. I would have run mine to a mapper with no issues. It ran pretty rich at low( below 2500) but was not to bad at higher rpm.

If I remember correctly I reduced fueling by around 20% at low rpm and around 7% higher up.

Mine still runs a little bit rich, but for track use I prefer this, as it helps keep temperatures down etc.

Also keep an ear out for pre-ignation if you run it for long, mine was OK until I increase the compression ratio.

Well if its got to run, it would be driven to be mapped, so not to far.

Ill see what its like when I get the base map sorted, will be tomorrow hopefully, depending on how much work it get done in the day.

Were did you get yours mapped

Thanks again for the info!

Thumbs up

Self mapped, but it is only a track car and not road legal.(Also have a wideband AFR guage permanently fitted)

Ah i see, I think ill get someone who no's what they are goin do it, i dont trust myself to do that.

Mine is going to be road legal, ive got my work van and weve got the other car so its more of an expensive toy. Big grin

To fit a wideband lambda have I got to change any of the wiring that goes to it?

Trailer it to the mappers, don't mess around with it yourself unless you know exactly what you are doing.
