As above im on the look out for a nice 306 HDI.colour not majorly important but must be a 3 door.

Also would like history of belt/waterpump but not essential if right price.Would also consider a damaged car again if price right.

What you got weiners?

tbh there a far better dervs out there for the money, if your just after it as a 2nd car (which i'd say you are) probably better off getting something a bit newer to get the £30 a year tax Clio/206/c2/fiesta/mazda2 etc etc the trade centre in Merthyr had a 1.4 derv 206 for £900 a month or so ago

Sure he would not be interested in a 5 door.

Off to Aus in the new year, so mine will be up for sale soon.

not worth it imo i've had 2 now and not seen any savings over the xsi-6 other than insurance, try and get through to him to see sense the only 306 hatch worth getting is a 6 or rallye FULL STOP

You do save a lot more money... I used to have a 1.8 306 and now have a d tub admittedly I do barely any miles but I've gone from two tanks a month in the 1.8 to one tank a month in the d tub which with current prices is a saving of about £80 a month

14p difference at the pump with us my xsi6 is getting 35mpg driven tidy both my d turbo 1.9 and hdi 2.0 didnt acheive over 45mpg driving it tidy

cost for me to drive xsi6 to and from work each week =£25 cost in either derv £25 i know in theory the derv should be cheaper but its that extra cost at the pump and reduced power with the derv, for me i got to travel single track lanes to and from work the xsi6 is just in 5th/6th all the way apart from the 2 tight bends whereas the dervs need to be dropped further and reved to get them to move.

My 206 van is similar in power but due to it getting better mpg is much cheaper to run and in car form is only £30 a year tax where the big savings are which is why i sugested cars with the 1.4 hdi lump in it

the 1.8s are expensive to run probably the most expensive 306 to run that i've owned

Im guessing your HDI was f*cked then.

Although the price difference where you are is about 10p more than over here I easily averaged over 50MPG in my HDI

Also the windy bends suited my HDI just fine. It produces the same amount of torque as a 6/rallye, its just the HDI delivers it much lower down the rev range so you shouldn't have to bother with the lower gears so its pretty much the opposite to what you've just said. I never had to drop a cog to overtake as the power was just there.

I'm not saying they are as fast a 6 / rallye but lower down there are probably better but run out of puff before 4k RPM.

TBH i'm also surprised your getting 35mpg out of your 6 down the back lanes too.

I had a hdi a few years ago and loved it it was easily 50 mpg

My current gti6 i would still say is great on fuel for what it is tho, over 400 miles to a tank but then again i dont rag its arse constant as im way past that stage plus owned quicker cars years ago
