As per the title, is it safe to reuse the bottom end of an engine thats suffered a snapped cam belt?

I know folks rebuild the heads and that but does any damage get done to the pistons/rods/crank when theres a valve / piston coming together?

Or is that the valves are the weakest link and the pistons emerge unscathed?

Shouldn't be a problem...

But there are a few stories of bottom ends failing shortly after head rebuilds.

If you have the time and money then a full strip down and rebuild would be sensible. Get the crank checked and replace the main and big end bearings too.

Thanks for the tips guys. As a bare minimum i was going to whip the sump off, check the crank and renew big end and mains anyway. Seems pointless not to do it TBH.

Is Rich W the best man for a bearing set?
