other than a lead foot.what else would casue exsesive fiuel consumption? what sensors or other componenets could be replaced to gain better mpg? so far ive had an injector clean and a full service. next plan is lambda sensor any one else got any other suggestions? ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

It's used as a choke when engines ar cold they need more fuel. So if the temp sensor is buggered and telling the ecu the engine is cold it will constantly over fuel. |

Lowers the BHp as its not correctly fuelling the engine.They are pence to change, the lambda is more but worth doing too. Also the throttle position sensor can give you high fuel consumption. What are we talking? Under 25mpg? ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

10 - 20 mpg. thanks for the helpi know my idle sensors on the way out. was revving up and down and cuts out sometime under heavy breaking. i already know the merits of replcing the o2 sensor in my 1.4. better mpg and exhaust didnt peng of petrol, so thats getting done. and i may aswell do the engine temp sensor while im at it. i did all this toward the end of owning my 1.4 for 6 years. so im gettign it all out of the way now. ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

How are you working out your mpg? Brim to brim fill and divide my miles done, or just sticking a tenner in and back of an envelope calculation. There is an ap for phones which will give true mpg based on odometer readings.Also take the GTi6 injectors off and replace them with the 1.4 ones  ________________________________________ Spanner Monkeys Monkey SpannerForum Search Clicky |

Check the condition of the wires going to the temp sensor. The insulation can disintegrate and cause the same problems as a dead sensor when the wires short out  ________________________________________ Standard Black 6Black HBSC6  |

Also take the GTi6 injectors off and replace them with the 1.4 ones its kindof betwen the two. every time i fill up i note how much and how many miles i do untill i next fill up. the longer i do this method the more accurate my predictions should become . its not a brillioant method but when i add the plus or minus amounts of error to my figure of 15mpg i get between roughly 10 - 20. whcih as you can see is way below the stated 35mpg. im just gona replace all my sensors this payday. and my 1.4 only has one injector  ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

i see. sorry i do seem a bit arsey on here at times. i dont mean to be, i just end up sounding that way. i do talk a lot of "nonsense " on here aswell. i like my crazy mad inventions and ideas. i should really expect im gonna get beat down a lot for it and not "bite" as you put itas for my poor spelling. a combination of dyslexia, lazyness and this new weird ergonic keyboard i shouldnt of bought, i slip up a lot. thanks for the help, its always appreciated  ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

What engine is in yours?
