I actually test drove the VR6 back to back with the GTI-6 back in 1998. I probably shouldn't admit it but I bought the Golf, mainly because it felt more solid and I was on a German thing at the time. The GTI-6 handling is vastly superior to the VR6, the VR engine is nice and they are similar fuel economy (late 20s). The VR6 in standard trim has rubbish handling, very ill-matched shocks and springs - shocks far too soft, springs too hard for the shocks. The result is a crashy but marshmallowy, wallowy ride - the worst of both worlds. The VW suspension engineers who did that should have been sacked. It was very quick, I found that at the time there was not much that could get away from it though, especially after I put -30mm springs and Bilstein Sport shocks in it. It transformed it and the VR6 surprised many a more overtly quick car. Most unreliable car I've ever owned though. Yep, a very unreliable VW. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |

Who says the VR6 was standard - not that hard to get power out of them. My 2.9 v6 rallye was pretty quick.________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

the VR engine does sound pretty damn good, have to say it is one of my favorute induction notes, pug v6 is another one but quite distinctively different.later ones were a tad more powerful and they don't weigh that much all in, but the placement of the boat anchor does not help the MK3 chassis! ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Vr6 is the best sounding 6 cylinder engine IMO. Have to say though your 6 must be f*cked! Especially if yours is 192bhp!!!! They are 7bhp more over a standard 6 unless it was the 2.9 which are 188bhp iirc. Granted they have more torque but not by a massive amount. Oh dear is all i can say or maybe pug performance fitted your "cams" ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

Why would you think that a 2.8 litre V6 in a hatchback that weighs less (1155kgs on Carfolio) than a Gti-6 wouldn't be quick? Especially in a straight line. While you were revving the tits off your camshafted engine, he was probaby overtaking you in 5th at 2000rpm, riding along on a wave or torque. |

from what I'm told the vr6 lumps can take stupid power through them - I'm sure a guy locally has 300+ BHP going through the standard internals. He could be talking shit however as people do.. I don't think a standard vr6 would "dissapear" from your 6, so must have been modded. ________________________________________ cress87 wrote: I'm stopped for speeding on a daily basis but now the police are aware that I live for the 306 they dare not interfere, just sit in their cars quaking as I drive past. |
