Hi fellas, the time's come to get definite names down for the rose joined drop links. I've now done around 500 miles on the sample set and they haven't missed a beat. Front end feels a lot tighter now and the car turns left and right with the same ease as opposed to favouring one particular direction.

The drop links themselves are made of a carbon steel tubular turnbuckle with spanner flats and M12 opposite threaded rose jointed ends, secured with half nuts. The head is dry lubricated with PTFE/kevlar and is self cleaning, although the odd wipe down to keep the crap off them won't do any harm. The fixings use a spacer either side secured with a 60mm M10 high tensile bolt and nyloc nut.

Adjustment ranges from the original drop link length to a further 30mm longer, ideal for cars lowered up to 80mm. My car is lowered 40mm at the front and there is still room for another 15mm or so of adjustment.

Old vs new

There's plenty of threads regarding the use of these style of drop links, but the main reasons for using them over standard are the longevity compared to standard or pattern parts (cheap drop links on lowered cars tend to pop every 12 months or so, even OE ones don't tend to like the drop) and the ability to adjust the ARB back to parallel and even add some preload if you so desire.

These will be sold at £80 delivered (+ Paypal fee if you don't trust me paying by gift Laugh) including nuts and bolts ready to fit but only on the premise that I get a minimum of ten names. I've told the supplier I will get back to them by Wednesday next week about placing an order, I will need everyone as a definite and paid up by then, but I won't take any money until I have ten definites down. I'd originally said £77 delivered but having looked into postage i'd be out of pocket at that.

All sets will be with you within 3 working days of sending your moneys. As this is a group buy for pretty much ready made parts there's no engineering process or anything required so I won't be working on a deposit basis, all orders need to be paid in full. I'm not in this to make any money, this is just a chance to get the parts at a massively discounted price of around 25% off even after postage is paid up.

Let's get the ball rolling then and get these snapped up! I need all names as definites at £80 posted for this to go ahead.

Go on, they're lovely Wink

Just done another 300 miles today including travelling back from blackpool, much better body control and sharper turn in, thought it may have been a placebo effect til i scared myself round a corner Laugh

Eddie i'll get your name down too, just 3 more buyers needed now so we're well on course...

i can see your point about the benefit on a lowered 6, but what about on a standard height 6?

its something that i am tempted by, i like shiny new parts on my 6 Big grin

also another question, yes they will last longer, but will they require more care and attention, i see you say regular cleaning would be a good idea?
so perfect for a lowered, regularly maintained track car. but what about 'fit and forget' road use?

not denying that it is a great part, just after advice, and more information on this.

They're not so much aimed at lowered cars, more the ability to reset the ARB geometry. They do the same job on a standard car, just the maximum range of adjustment means they're also suitable for lowered cars. You can just use them at standard length on a standard car.

Oh and as for fit and forget, these will last a damned long time as they are, an occasional wipe will help keep the crap out of them though. I can get rubber covers though if you have any concerns but you're talking an extra tenner for them.

If you wash the car once a week/every other week, just give them a quick going over with some WD40 or similar, stop the shit building up on 'em.

For road use I would strongly recommend dust boots on the joints. Prior to Phil supplying them on a new set of joints for me I was getting through a set of joints every 5,000 miles or so.

With boots fitted they are essentially fit and forget.

Just to be awkward, and throw a spanner in the works, but how much are phillipm's versions?

I did have the liner formulation changed as well to help there, but they're a good idea if you can't be arsed to give them the odd clean.

Dave, they're priceless at the minute, because I won't be making any more until I get a new lathe. Thumbs up

I can't remember any setup notes on these other than letting the car sit on it's wheels (level ground obviously) and setting them to length there.

Is anyone else setting them up any differently?

Track or road settings different?

I have done a search but didnt come up with much, can anyone post a link to a thread that explains the benefits.

All i caught was the levelling of the ARB and the ability to pre load?

Im a pain i know, sorry Smile
