Hey all,

Just wondered how restrictive the standard gti6 exhaust setup is?

Ive currently got a scorpion backbox on standard mid section - there is a little gap where the two components meet at the clamp and i should have gotten it sealed with an o ring and some exhaust paste but im pretty lazy so havent.

Just wondered is this little leak of exhaust gases before it reaches the backbox is going to cost me any sort of performance or is it negligible?

Toying with going back to a standard back box, got one sitting in the garage!

Thanks

Not going to rob you of much power, it just sounds crap an will have a tendancy to work loose and damage the flange faces.

Good stuff, might switch back myself, even though its hardly modified...i do alot of motorway miles and a silent exhaust and nothing but sweet induction note is something i think i would like Big grin

I prefer it tbh, my setup at the minute sounds lush, bonnet vents ftw Laugh

I just think it sounds like it has more grunt now, as opposed to the "artificial" noise of an aftermarket exhaust

Here's my Scorpion backbox, straight through Sportex center, and even with the O ring to join them it would eventually work loose.

I put my Pug backbox back on with the same centre and immediately got better low torque, and I could hear the radio. Its not quite as free flowing at the top end, but its not often I'm on track, and the everyday driveability is much better.

Here's a vid of the Induction kit

Nice one cheers monkeyman.

Does the standard pug centre pipe have much in the way of restrictions then? Is it worth getting a straight through centre with standard back box? Presumably that would be better than full standard setup?

The standard section is shaped specifically to aid flow, can't see just whacking a straight tube in there providing much benefit apart from making a load of noise.

I had a standard mid and rear when I got the car, then I changed to a 2.5" Powerflow which did breathe better on track, but took a bit to get going and was noisier. I then went to a Sportex mid, Scorpion rear, and finally put the Std rear box on.
The old mid had been on for a while, so changing to anything would make a difference, but I do like this setup, quiet and torquey.
Trings not far away, if you want to meet up and see what this setups like drop me a PM

I might come and have a nose at your car yeah at some point in the next couple of weeks. Is it standard?

Mine is due a cambelt in 2K and hopefully Stuwee1983 (who is also in St Albans) is going to do it for me. So one Saturday in the next few weeks i might be around getting that done (i do alot of miles in short periods) so could come say hello if convenient Thumbs up

Well documented that pug spent a lot of time and effort getting the standard system right, not much point in creating a thing of beauty like the 4 branch exhaust manifold that we have and then whacking some shit on the rest of it is there Wink

OE FTW on the Centre section though, a non gen such as a Timex will get smashed to bits in a matter of months and resonate like a complete Tw*t. Spend the extra 50 quid and get a pug one Thumbs up

In standard we Trust Angel

avoided at all costs like shoddy max power body kits, takky lexus lights and any crapy aftermarket alloys that wernt originally made by pug?

and in the tailgunner exhausts defence. its a f*cking minigun.
a minigun on a car has to be cool.
