I've paid off my loan this is very good news indeed. This also means I hve £200 a month extra.

So, now I have some choices of what to do with my tansportation needs.

So far the darren9 household has a GTi6 and a passat estate.

We also have me, the wife, a new baby and the dog to cart around

With the extra money I have 2 choices

1. Keep the GTi6 and passat and over time make changes to the GTi6 turning it into a track/fast road car as originally intended.

2. Take some finance out and change cars.

If I do change I'll need something new(ish) probably 5 door, but could manage with 3 doors if the car was right. It needs a large boot and to be a quick/enjoyable drive. If I do change the new car would be the main family transport for me, the wife and the baby and the passat will be swapped for a 1k diesel estate of some type for doggy carrying duties.

My short list of new cars are.

Renault sport Megane - hopfully an F1 if not a 225 or trophy (I think they're the good ones)

Seat Leon CupraR (mk1)

Subaru Impreza WRX (probably 'bug eye' with PPP)

Ford Focus ST 170

Skoda Octavia VRS

Also ... 206 GTi 180. Are they really that bad?

Any thoughts on the options? Anyone experienced the cars on my shortlist or any other suggestions? Or should I just keep and improve the GTi6?

Cupra no other choice if you want to be really sensible go for a 150bhp diesel cupra remap it then you'll be saying bye bye to a gti-6

Meggy F1 for me or a Clio Trophy

Apparently the 130pd engines where a lot stronger, my missus have a seat ibiza 130 and it is quick, remap and you easily say bye to the 6, good handling to if a little harsh.

Her model is the sport version, have had it some 2 yrs, have done 30000 miles and apart from 3 tyres and some new disks thats all we have done. to it.

Old cars, in fact any cars, always cost money. GTI-6 is a lot cheaper to run than some old cars. Or you can buy a newer car and spend a lot of money on finance interest. Changing cars always costs money too (so the seller can make their profit), so the money you "save" on not fixing the GTI-6 will be more than outweighed by changing the car.

I reckon take the extra £200 per month and spend it on your GTI-6 as a toy and keep the Passat for family transport duties.

I've been browsing various dealerships this afternoon and have narrowed down my choices to either.

1. keep what I have and service and fix any problems the passat has and upgrade the GTi6
2. LCR
3. WRX

I see you'll soon have a little one to transport, we have a 11 month old baby and we're managing fine with a '6 and an Audi A4 Avant.

Get a maxicosi cabriofix or pebble carseat and the easyfit base and getting the little one in and out of the '6 is no hassle at all. Travel system fills the boot - but you'll learn to live with that.
