as said its a resonator. notice how its on the clean air side of the filter. durring the intial stages of acceleration it gives a larger amount of redily available air. it also helps keep sharp increases of vacum to a minimum which in theory should smooth out throttle responce and acceleration etc its more complicated than that but that a basic idea of what it does ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

^^No, that's what the plenum is for.The helmzholt resonator on the intake is for suppression of intake noise by generating opposing pulses in the intake to those creating the most noise - effectively cancelling them out. It's also partially there to help bolster flat spots in the torque curve (caused by the combination of camshaft and runner lengths) by adding another frequency chamber that gives a small pulse tuning effect - same as the runners themselves do - albeit at the slight expense of the peak torque values. That's why it's connected through a relatively small port - it doesn't need to flow much air, just influence the sound waves traveling back and forth through the inlet manifold. ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. I preferred this thread when it was only two posts long. It had a certain simple charm to it.________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

^^With you posting it's going to stay simple anyway. Not sure about the charm though.________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. so what your saying is this thing helps the engine run better, which is what i was saying, all be it in a rather more primative way. seeing as you know more, would a better quality filter in the same setup with other na engine mods benefit from a differnt sized resonator? im guessing it probly makes a fart in a tornadoes worth of perforomance doing it though ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

You've got confused with two different parts...The airfilter is pretty much nothing to do with it ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments.
