The guys in the workshop next to mine were after a new project, and having an old Honda vtec estate laying around the ideas started to flow, a Nova and a 106 was mentioned but I had a 205 STDT shell which was going to scrap so this was donated.

Its just the start but here are them both ready to be cut and shut so to speak,











will post up progress as we go Smile

Please tell me they're not just going to weld the whole front subframe + suspension setup into the back and hope?

i know! exactly what i was thinking. reminded me of a lad putting a v6 into the back of something from a 406 coupe. he welded the whole back end in and it was quite poor results, it was on one of the pug forums

dont be silly!Crazy that would be stupid!

there is a full cage being made and going straight on the strut top of the Honda.

here is more progress, its looking a beast.









oh and the tubes are just to hold the shell square till the cage goes in.

remember that but dont think he ever got it running or finished, the shell would flex to hell!

Oh ok I see what you mean?! Yes a full space frame would be good but that takes a lot of time to do. Yes in a perfect world that would be great, but the is nothing wrong with whats being done, the cage will be the strength of the car so will go right down to the rear of the Honda subframe, up to the turrets, round to the sills of the car and to the front turrets and floor?

Now your going to say thats not great but MG just bolted a Metro subframe to the rear to make a MGF ok not the best example but it works.

The rack will be taken off and arms made so you have fully adjustable rear suspension, coilovers are going in on the front and rear to.

So wheres the problem?

Oh and forgot to mention this car wont be on the road so will just be a track toy.

Not a problem, just seems silly to me to go to all that effort of making it and a full cage and not just stick a tubular subframe and match suspension under there at the same time.
It won't handle all that well just welding the front frame in the rear, they'll probably have to make the suspension hard as nails so that the suspension hardly moves otherwise it'll be somewhat dicey as it'll flick from understeer to oversteer through different parts of the suspension travel/body pitch/roll

boys up here Trac-Prep made a mental redtop rear engined 205 gti, was good fun and was a tad to mental to be any use at knockhill but was fun at crail on the strip and on the oval

I would have picked a better engine than that tho, The gray 106 with that engine in the back was at york raceway last time i was down in april and it wasn’t very impressive. i bet you would get a better result using a gti6 engine. am sure the 106 was running something like 14.5 whats not very good at all for all the time and effort put into it.

Still a good project to watch. look forward to seeing it finished

Agree it could be better, and a better engine but Im sure when done it will look great and be fun!

It only being built for fun, nothing else! parts laying around decided what was being used, so very little money so far has been spent if anything!

Im not building it and its not my car or my choices, I would have used a GTi-6 or a V6 or something pug but it still looks mean and will be fun.

look forward to seeing this come on, yeah you could of used a better vtec lump but that will be good fun for now then in long term could swap to a DC5 lump or similar?

A custom cages roll cage has been ordered and welded in along with a lot of other welding to make the rear of the shell nice and strong;

The wiring has now been started which is always a pain!

Spent ages working out why the fuel pump would not prime or go when cranking only to find an earth had been snagged by mistake while removing the loom from the Honda!!

Just got to work out whats needed now and get rid of whats not then mount it all in the car.

work has got in the way a bit now slowing things down but still getting a bit done.

honda front subframe was lightened a bit as it weighed a ton!;



gear linkage made out of 2 306 gear rods, gear change is a very short shift!



wiring is coming to, engine does run so all is good, honda switches and instruments being mounted on 205 column;



a very old capri racing tank is being mounted in the front and is a perfect fit.





dimma kit found on ebay and soon to be fitted;

water pipes done, not my choice of piping more like central heating but does the job Im sure plus will help cooling aswell;





exhaust done aswell, again not my choice of tailpipe but just one that was laying around, and is suprisingly quiet;



rear coilover and adjustable top wishbones;
