Right..

I took the car out on Sunday and it was fine and dandy.. Went to the shops and back with no issues. Parked up and left it overnight on the drive.

Come Monday morning i went to go to work and the car wouldn't even turn over. When you turn the Key all you get is a Click from what sounds like its coming from the starter motor.

Today i've managed to take the inlet manifold off and have a look at it. I've swapped the starter over to another one i had spare and still the same issue.

I've put a screwdriver to the starter motor to try and start it manually and all you hear is a click and the engine won't turn.

I've tried sticking a jumper lead on the starter motor and earthing it against the battery but still the same..

Need some ideas as i could do with the car ASAP..

FYI its a phase 1 Gti-6

I have this problem with my car at the moment - had the AA look at it last night, he concluded that starter motor is dead. My battery is brand new, and the earthing is all good, car can be bump started fine so it all points to a new starter motor. The only other thing he tested for was if the engine was seized - I hope this isn't the case for you! He checked it by rocking the car when it was in gear (4th i think)

Had this happen before, was the crank sensor.

ended up being a dodgy starter motor..

Solenoid wasn't passing the power from the main 12v line to the starter

replaced and all working as it should
