My already embarrassing level of mechanical competence has sunk to new lows. How the feck do you remove/push down this thing. I think it must have popped up when i was rooting around in the boot but I can't get it to go back down. Tried twisting, pushing, pulling, swearing.

Thanks in advance.

line it up with the hole in the boot floor before you hit it with hammer!

The clear bit should be tapped gently into the relevant hole in the boot floor, then the carpet goes down, the black insert is to hold the carpet down. Why they felt the need to hold it down is beyond me?

you do know it is it to sit proud? or else you'd crush the lining. it looks right in your photo. they don't hammer in, what the hell! they just press in about 10mm up to the first neck. if they were any further they would be impossible to get out and split the collar. the idea is for the top collar and bottom collar to be above/below the boot lining crap

yes! I know the built quality of a 90's french hatch isn't exactly luxury but I was thinking the carpet was a bit thinner than i remember in my last 306.
