Just bought a Magnex of a fellow member and I've got a little question about it, the exhaust I'm going to take off has 3 hangers on the back box and the magnex only has 2, will this make a difference when fitting and will it be as secure once fitted?
Thanks

The Standard exhaust on the '6 only has 2 Hangers off the back box. It will fit fine Thumbs up

P.S I have one on mine and it's perfectly secure.

Thanks for that mate, just thought it was a bit strange that there are 3 places to hang it from and it only uses 2

Haha my bad then, mine only had 2 LOL

Saying that the backbox had seen better days and I wouldn't be suprised to hear it had rusted and snapped clean off haha

But my Magnex fits fine and I haven't had any issues with it not being secure Smile

Sorry, couldn't help myself from posting a picture

Yeah very pleased thanks Matt Smile

It came around at just the right time too as as I said above, the state of the old backbox wasn't the best. There was about 3cm left of metal actually holding the piping onto the backbox which is where the severe blowing was coming from and causing an absolute racket inside the car while driving in low revs.

So all in all, it is now actually quieter inside the car than before! LOL

Sounds lovely outside as well imo Smile

Just fitted mine last night and it's hanging down quite low, I've had powerflex mount's on it and they were useless, put the old ones back on and it's better but still hanging down quite low after the centre section, any ideas?

Also at about 60 or 70 it makes a kind of whistling noise, this is surely not normal

mine was hanging low aswell so i bent the hangers a bit and used some zip ties to hold it up more. works fine. mine also whistles a bit at high revs. (mine's the classic 3" magnex from about 5yrs ago)

I had the whistling problem too, it gradually got worse until i had a new center box welded in.

I'll try the cable tie idea tomorrow although really you should not have to do this, will the cable ties not melt under the car with the heat of the exhaust? As with the whistle if that does not get an better I'll be getting rid of this particular exhaust

You don`t have to resort to cable ties. There is nothing wrong with the exhaust. It just has to be adjusted correctly. Slacken off the "u" bolts at both the cat and the back box. With your head facing towards the engine twist the mid section clockwise. One hand holding onto the mid box and the other holding onto the bend between the mid box and back box until the mid box is approx 30mm from the underside of the car. Any further and it will rattle when you go over bumps. When you have the middle section in this position tighten up the "u" bolts. This will have the result in lifting the whole mid section closer to the underside of the car and fitting into the exhaust tunnel. Make sure the "u" bolts are facing sideways otherwise the threads will catch on the ground. I know the above works because i have fitted countless Magnex cat back systems and if not fitted correctly do hang low.

As for the whistling make sure you have applied a liberal coating of exhaust jointing paste between the sections and once fitted let the car idle for at least 15 minutes to allow the paste to harden.
Should be sorted after that.

The Magnex backbox only has 2 hangers (both at the tailpipe end). The midbox has one. The standard Gti6 backbox has 3, 2 at the tailpipe and 1 at the other end. This is the way they are made in the factory and has no detrimental effect on the fitting or stability.

If you are still struggling after all of that above i will gladly fit it correctly for you for a small fee lol Wink

Coolant dumped out yesterday when I stopped to fuel up, not sure exactly what has happened yet as I've not had a chance to get a proper look at it, but talking to other members it's not looking to great I don't think
