Heya there.
This is a dupe thread from the engine room, as i wasn't sure where to post, sry :S

Had a 306, which got stolen
I bought a 306 gti to cheer myself up Smile
It was a lemon with a few problems
Having been made redundant I took it to Newgale in Wales for a camping trip where the head gasket blew.... or so i thought!

It now turns out that it's most likely fine. My garage had lied about fixing my radiator fans and now i have new fans it seems ok...but I've had the car off the road for a year having not been able to afford to fix it.

My new garage (friend of a friend situation) has explained what's really wrong and was about to go start sorting it out.

however, the other day they turned the key in the ignition and ... nothing.

It turns over and but there's no spark to start her up. seems like there is a signal but it's getting lost in the ECU.

Does anybody know what to do to fix this?
Reset ecu? get a keycode from peugeot?

I've heard romours about being able to disconnect a grey wire somewhere near the driver seat/driverside passanger seat?

Can anyone offer assistance, or do i have to fork out £150 for a ECU reset with an electrician; when im not even sure this will 100% fix the problem...

Anyone had an experience like this, know where to start or what to do?

Really hope to get this sorted so i can have a car for some of the summer, having had it off the road for no reason because my old garage did me over :*(

feel such a plum, that I'd be eternally grateful for help.

Pete.

Roland - if you read this, you offered to help before, and even take it away if i was gonna scrap it. seems that my last thread (last may) was a cock and bull story!

ah well, heres to hoping...

Try to borrow an unlocked ECU to eliminate the problem.

You can reset the ECU by simply disconnecting the battery positive cable for a minute.

Each cylinder has an independent coil so its worth first confirming there is no spark in any plug.

To me it sounds like the immobiliser is the most likely cause of the problem. Check your key has the transponder chip in it (very small chip wedged into the case in a corner) - could you have picked up a spare key that doesn't have a chip? Also check that the sensor ring around the ignition barrel is undamaged and connected where it should be.

If your sure that is all ok then check the crankshaft sensor (in the top of the gearbox at the engine side), if this isn't working the ECU won't get a signal telling it the engine is turning therefore it won't fire the ignition coils.

It is highly unlikely that the ECU will just have stopped working unless it has been treated badly.

All those things are ok and working, tried two keys, crankshaft thingy is working, key seems fine... hmmm

It does seem to be an immobiliser/ecu thing, but i dunno how to go about fixing it :S

i found this note, but don't know that it bears any relevance?:
"dead peugeot 306 - Oilburner
Hi Petronus

I had a similar problem on my 94 xldt

Changed battery and vehicle wouldn't start. Strange noise when ignition activated.

I solved it by taking the back seat behind driver forawrd as if you were folding seats down. Then under the back rest on the seat there are 2 grey connecter blocks. Undo the one nearest to you and reinsert. This seeems to reset the system

Good Luck"
