Bought a genuine cat off here a month or so ago and had it fitted by Carl. Car ran really great afterwards was loving life and had never pulled harder. This lasted about 2 weeks and after a couple of longish enthusiastic drives (3 hrs or so) I noticed the exhaust sounded very ticky around the cat area especially noticeable when driving over enclosed areas like, bridges or passed buildings and seemed to rise with revs. The noise always seems worse at the end of a hard drive i assume because the cat had heated up. My car feels down on power again now, not terrible just feels like it lost its 3-4k wow factor. Also it cut out for the first time at a junction the other day and today from cold would turn over but not start first time.

Have i bought a dud cat and how likely is it that it has broken up a bit and if so would this block the exhaust up at all?

Could it be the cat blowing when hot?

Are these symptoms likely to be related?

Am i just a paranoid fool?Razz

Would love to get this sorted as it's not as fun to drive at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Why are you shouting the word cat?

Can you give a better description of the noises? Ticky is a bit vague, and if you can hear them in the cabin it suggests they are quite loud.

Have you checked the joints for blowing and the lower engine mount for movement?

not sure really, perhaps its to ensure nobody thinks i'm talking about the furry feline equivalent. I drive around with the windows down so probably explains why it's audible from within the cabin. When i say ticky i mean like injectors, but louder, definitely coming from the cat area, definitely rhythmic with revs. Had it a bit with my old cat (non genuine) got this genuine one put on and it seemed to quieten for a bit. I haven't had a chance to get under the car for a listen / feel yet, would there be obvious signs of a worn lower mount?

Update on this, drove about an hour and a half today and 10 mins before the end of my journey the stop light started flashing plus battery light on I think, so I switched off the engine and then back on and it was still flashing, temperature dials all fine. I pulled over to switch off and the light went out for the remainder of the journey. The car is very jerky when backing off the throttle and still not picking up as normal. I'm worried now, should I get it on diagnostics? Recently I've done an oil change and cut the standard air scoop at the top to let more air in, just wondering whether this might have affected anything like let excessive moisture into the air filter as the car seems worse in all the heavy fog and rain, thanks

Mellow ...

There are plenty of things it could be, does the engine management light ever come on? The jerky coming off the throttle was happening to mine when I had a knackered MAP sensor...

Just a couple of ideas.. To be fair I would be talking to Carl about this failing that take a drive to his and get him to have a quick gander.

There was water in my air filter canister!! How?
why? Hope the engine hasn't ingested much if any. Drying out the filter and have taped up the scoop cut out. When I cut the scoop I also fixed the down pipe to the airbox with a jubilee clip to improve the seal and I'm wondering whether that join isn't supposed to be completely sealed, perhaps to let some moisture escape.

well, i also noticed that my throttle heater was unplugged aswell, not sure if that would make a difference to anything. sorted out the filter, ECU reset and filled up with V power as i was forced to put BP filth in just before all this happened and have run the car for a bit. Seems a bit better now but its still not quite right. Hopefully a few more runs will clear it up, exhaust does sound a bit noisy though
