While I had my Rallye for sale I spotted this on ebay. A few days later it was on the drive!!Its a Classic Leyland Mini, made in 1976, with the 1275 GT A-series engine in with a weber carb. Few other goodies too. Not many pics at the mo...

Bit of an impulse buy, but I can only describe it as a gokart with a shell!! Sticks to the road and corners like nothing Ive ever been in before!

The engine is quite good is strong and is great on countrylane blasts. I think the weber needs balancing though as it pops sometimes. Will get it all setup on a RR next year jsut before I use it again. I used it for couple of months, but have now taken it off the road to fix and partly restore areas. Want to paint the engine bay for example.

What do you think? Bit of a marmite car, but certainly got a lot of attention when driving it around, especially when I had my bike on top LOL

Cheers,

Nick.

Brilliant Big grin
Love Mini's, had a '74 Clubman when I passed my test and my ex-girlfrind had a '71 (tax exempt) Clubman that I loved!

Might find it runs better and is nicer to drive if you bin off the Weber and whack an HIF44 on there... Probably more suited to the capacity of that 1275 lump, better low down torque too.

Enjoy the rust issues Whistle

I've rebuilt 2 of these from scratch, from the ground up, so I guess I know my way around them. If need any help drop me a pm Smile

My first one had an 1100cc with a full race cooper head. It made 75bhp ATW's. The second was a 1293 which made 85bhp ATW's and the third (which got me a driving ban for doing 112.7 average mph) was Again a 1293cc which put out 93bhp ATW's (close to 110bhp at the flywheel) they all ran a modified HIF44. The last one would have made over 100 atw's if fitted with a webber. What I'm saying is unless you're after mega power ditch the weber Yes

Thanks for the comments folks.

It was originally a Sprite 1000 in red, and has been restored before. Been re-sprayed black (obviously) and had the usual welding done to sills and pillars. So she is in pretty good nick.

The original engine has been replaced with this 1275 unit which Ive been told is from a metro.

I am unsure of its state of tune, regarding the weber being there. But it has a few goodies on it and obviously had some money thrown in during the restoration. I guess the only way of telling is to get it on the dyno.

So far I know its got;

Front disc conversion
10" minilites
Maniflow exhaust man
LCB (2" bore)
Spax dampers all round
Weber carb
Extra engine steady (I think)
Sportspack arches

Sure it must have spacers on too to push the wheels out that far!? Need to get the wheels off really and see!

But thanks for your comments, and looks like a few of you will come in use in the future for some help and info LOL

Nick.

Old minis are a lot of fun.
I have had loads of them, back in the day.
That one looks good, apart from those things on the headlights which are totally gay.

Love it!
Yeah ditch the webbers, get the hif44 from the 1.3 metro or mg metro.
Then get the needle and jet sortd to suit, try not to go down the route of filing the needle down just fit an off the shelf one.
Then get the carb spring alterd to suit.
Have the carb, carb spacer and inlet port matchd.
Should all help.

I ran a metro with a late fuel injectd cooper s lump in it, junckd the injection and fitted a carb to the above specs.
Made 96 atw

and dont fit multi electrode plugs, it ran like a bag of spanners with them in, fitted a set of ngk r and it was sweet and made more power.

Cheers for all the info, it will all come in useful along the line Smile

I havnt done much on it, mainly due to the cold weather and not wanting to go in the garage all night LOL I also bought a road quad so been having fun on that in my spare time.

I have though made a start on cleaning and painting the engine bay to spruce it up a bit. Just bought some bits and pieces for it so will hopefully have an update in a couple of weeks.

Wanted to get rid of the grease and grime from the bay before painting so cleaned it with some degreaser fooooooooooooam

Ive fitted new HT leads, new coil, polished rocker, polished rad cap, painted block, new heater valve. The engine steadies are being painted at the moment and waiting on some bushes and thermo gasket then can put all those parts on.

Painted the bay black, but need to go over some areas which I missed.

So here she is as of tonight....

Not much of an update, but something! LOL

No, I don't have the knowledge to just 'whip the engine out' LOL

It has been done before so I am just touching it all up. It's ok to get into the tight spots, just got to take your time Smile

My First car was a mini city in a 2 tone Purple/blue, with stage 1 exhaust manifold & straight through exhaust.

I'll never forget the look on the guy driving the XR3i when I raped him from a set of traffic lights...Well until we got to 30mph...

Handle like nothing else you've ever driven.

So much like a go cart & mad fun to drive.

Just don't crash into anything!

Enjoy

Ah memories, anyone want my 6 for a mini? haha

Well been a while since I updated this. Has been on the road for a while now, using it as a weekend fun car. Been on a few Mini Runs including the London to Brighton - around 3,000 minis in total it was crazy!

Anyway, here are some pics. Its just had some work done and now has 12 months mot! Will be for sale soon as I fancy a change.

Roof bars now off and rear wheels no longer spaced. Also added black rear tints to replace the reflective ones.

Added mk2 rear lights

L2B

Suffolk Mini Run

Tarted up engine bay

How it was before!

Thanks all!
