hey guys, ive just bought a white gti6 and am going to have the engine put in from my 406.
it is the 210bhp engine which i have been told is more of a challenge on the electrical side of things but my question is this, has anyone had any dealings with pug performance as they have quoted me £1500 all in if i take the two cars to them and they also said they would give me a fiew hundred quid back for the 6 engine! does this seem a little too good to be true?? thanks in advance

pug performance get mixed views, some good some bad.

will they change the cambelt? as its a pig when its in there?
and have they agreed exact figure for your lump?
no doubt they will try and say tut tut ahhhh the compression isnt the best so wel give you 100 for engine Yes

assuming you brought the coupe 406 you can make money back from breaking it after.

pp weld in the 406 mounts on the r/h side, never seen what they do on the left or rear.

As for the 210 lump it will have to go on Emerald or DTA.

The 210 engine is supposed to be a bit of a nightmare - there is a guy on pug306.net putting a 210 in. The older engine was hard enough without all the extra monkeying about. However cams and remaps are available on the new engine.

I think you need to find out exactly what you get for £1500. Does that include the driveshafts and if it does will you keep ABS (ie use the 306 outers). Does it include making the clutch work, sorting out the exhaust downpipe and putting the cable shifter in. There is a lot to think about...

Its worth it in the end but its a lot of work.

Sounds far to cheap to me, The ES9J4s needs a fair amount more work even with the use of a aftermarket ECU, Fuel rails for one,
custom engine mounts, Modded Driveshafts go with either version of the engine, Exhaust, Even the belt and clutch kit is circa £600.00 alone

thanks for the reply guys Smile
the donor car is my 406 saloon and the reason i am using this is that it has had a new clutch and full cambelt kit with water pump in the last 6 months and the engine is very healthy.
The guy i spoke to (colin) said that it can be done with the standard management and i did check a fiew times that this was for the 210 engine
i will have another chat with them and find out a bit more info on what exactly will be done

Not sure they would honor through the drive in and out cost if it was going to leave them out of pocket. I heard a story of a guy who was turbo charging a 205 that went over budget and they refused to finnish it. However, its a story and i done know how true it is. Pm gti6girl as she knows the garage better than anyone else on here.

The one I've just done in the 309 works out around £4k but that is with all the Exhaust system, Emerald ECU etc,
Mind I doubt you'd get a better install no wires to be seen unlike allot of these.

Everything is basically the same, On Phase 1 XSi's the rear end is the same as the 6, only the front brakes differ, no idea on later ones you never know but ARB at worst which are pence alomost

I don't think any 306's have multiplex ecus, If they do it would be the VERY late ones so that shouldn't be an issue. It shouldn't be an issue. Have you considered buying the cherry v6 rallye off pugplus and selling your coupe?

Personally i'd spend the money on your saloon, making it lighter and getting decent suspension and brakes on there (if you haven't already). You'll get more out of it by doing that I think. It will also be a lot more relible because you don't have the driveshaft and other teething problems you'll have in the 306.

Its not worth buying Richard's V6 rallye imo.

if i were to buy a rallye like that it would stay like that, it is an exellent example and i couldn't butcher a car like that.
i was hoping to find a clean shell which is not great mechanically but like you say adam, maybe i will spend some cash on my 406
If i could find lightweight panels for the 406 then i would have made my mind up on that already but it is a difficult car to get bits for
