Did you have any grief dropping the tank? I snapped the rear bolt on the brace on the hdi, but was lucky it left enough for a full nut engagement.

Good work mate Smile

Want to come help me with mine? So many jobs, so little time!

Plus it seems everytime I attempt to do something with mine, something goes wrong, or stops working Laugh

I am flat out with my own crap at the minute Chris lol, wouldn't mind coming to have a nosey at your beam in pieces though.

I hope that's about it with regards to MOT readiness, just realised I need to change the fuel filter and spark plugs so off to order them. Yes

That's a bit fail on the price of the braces. On my HDi the figure of 8 that retains the drivers side cable has decided to separate in two, so you can see my handbrake cable dangling and there is nowt to cable tie it to! Shall be chemical metalling that back together then! :p

Tonight I just finished off the front end having changed over the brake hoses by bleeding the front lines. Fluid didn't look too bad actually. Fitted the arch liners, turned the car around, pedal wasn't really spongy at all which is good, then backed it into the garage to look at the rear lines.

Drivers side hose union seems to want to take the pipe with it, even though the union has split. Not sure what else to do with that really, just wirebrushed the hell out of it and soaked it in plus gas a few times. The compensator side union split no issue. Don't want to be heating it up as it's a bit close to the petrol tank for my liking. Worst case i'll cut it off and get the factors to copy it, but that's a delay I don't really need tbh.

Will see how it plays ball tomorrow. Fitted all my new brake line clips anyway - what on earth posessed the previous owner to push them all through i'll never know - brake lines, abs sensors, fuel lines the whole shabang. Fortunately the ABS sensors and fuel lines just clipped back in.

Hurrah!

Rear brake lines nil, Pieman 2. Got them off with a bit of lateral thinking. The front unions were seized but the back ones were free at the compensator end. Undid the free ends, then rotated the brake lines off the seized union nuts.

After finishing that, did a quick bleed at the rear end, remembering to copper grease the bleed nipples. Ended up with a pretty firm pedal right off the bat - that's a good start. Will give it another cheeky bleed before MOT if I remember but it should be fine.

Whilst I was under there I fitted a new fuel filter - took a whopping 45 seconds including getting it out the box!

That said and done, I think she's ready for MOT! Can't remember what else I need to do, if anything!

Jim's sentiments are about right. At the moment it's back to sitting in the garage feeling sorry for itself on stands. I'm away on business at the moment and haven't touched it since the weekend. Not a clue what the engine noise is that has come about after a belt change, that only appears when hot. Belt is currently off as I ran out of time (gf's sister was visiting from SA).

There are a few suggestions in my other thread but obviously not one that people have heard before. I can but try again when I get home . I have a lot of other priorities at the moment though so she's missed her chance really, fecking thing.

Wahey.

Fast forwarding a few months here as it sat on the drive for a long time. My rush to get it ready for MOT led to a precautionary cambelt change. When I changed the belt with assistance from someone on here, the water pump turned out to be faulty. When I exchanged the pump and ran it up, the inlet cam pulley bolt worked itself loose and allowed the camshaft to be left behind by the rotating pulley. The resulting knocking noise was one of the worst you could ever hear an engine make.

I was out of time, and luck seemingly. I had to divert efforts onto getting the house ready to go on the market. A promotion at work too meant that the time had become a bit of a premium. I had worked out though that the noise was the sound of the cam pulley thumping the cam forward, which would jump forwards abd then be shoved by the cam pulley again, so there was at least hope.

About a week ago, I got around to retiming the engine with said assistant, and thankfully the engine was tap free with no damage. The relief was indescribable. A very lucky escape indeed. Still got a noise from the water pump which i'm not very impressed by, but i'm not doing it again just yet.

Having counted my chickens I spent the evenings this week trying to get the car clean and tidy for the MOT. She went in for test this morning and passed with flying colours. I had asked him to be extra critical, declaring that the entire front end had been apart and to please double-check things. He complimented my workmanship and found only one thing worth advising on, which was the front discs were corroded on the inside. I knew about this though, as they're the old ones off my HDi which were seeminly warped. I can now proceed and fit my new front brakes. Smile

First MOT in my possession so it was always going to be a bit nervy, especially knowing the last MOT it had wasn't worth the paper it was written on as it was clearly dodgy.

And she's taxed. Hyper

Took the old girl out for a bit of a drive tonight. I was too late to get it across to have it tracked, so just took it out anyway to give it a run and start looking for niggles.

Drove it slowly for the first few miles, realised the noise i could hear was the arch liner having popped out and started to erode at an alarming rate on the tyre. Fail. Doh

With an epic roadside cable tie lash-up affair sorted there I set off on the road again. Did a 30 mile loop with a stop check in the middle, and, well, couldn't find any issues lol. It's a hoot to drive, makes you feel like a hero with every input. The LSD works well, though it's going to take a bit of getting used to as it's very effective, much more so than the TorSen in my Rover was. Power is very progressive, and it takes off like a stabbed rat at 4K when it comes on cam. Quite happy with that really.

Took some nice pics whilst I was there. It doesn't look half bad in these photos, but it's dirty and sorely in need of some tlc.

The police made an appearance just as i was taking these photos. It's actually a bird sanctuary in market deeping, so i thought i was going to get some grief, plus only having been taxed today I was expecting the spanish inquisition but he just stopped, looked, and drove off. I should be less suspicious. Ninja

Yes I know the rear is high, got a lowered Xsara beam to fit at some point. The brakes are gay too so I need to fit my upgrade.

Thanks Mik.

It's been a long time in the making thanks to spending 22 months out the country since buying it in October 2010 lol. Was nice to actually drive it in semi-anger as i've been waiting a good period to do so.

Few mods left to go on yet. Exhaust isn't the best, but it's very quiet except for when hammering the loud pedal which is quite surprising.

I went to build this bas**rd thing inbetween buying it and finishing it. In reality, i'd probably have sold it if i Knew I was going away for that long.

Now then. Over 100 miles on the clock since putting her through the test now and she seems to be lapping them up.

Had it tracked this morning after trying to get there all week after work and failing for various reasons, such as the traffic wombles closing the A14 for a fire the other way. Thumbs down It didn't look too bad on the computer to start with, but then having made the adjustments back to where the computer settings suggested it is much better to drive. It doesn't feel like it's fighting you to go in a straight line any more. Thumbs up

I've developed a small oil leak from the front of the block behind the starter, where the Phase 1 have the oil pressure switch. I had fitted an adaptor in there to run my SPA oil gauge, but seemingly it's bypassing the adaptor and dribbling down the block ftl. Not the easiest thing to get to so it can wait for now. Seems to sit quite happily at 75 water temp when cruising though, even with all the coolers in front of it. Haven't seen oil temp go about 90 yet, but then i've not exactly spanked it on track yet.

Given how many things I changed in one go I had this nagging feeling that something was going to go wrong when it returned to the road, but touch wood she seems to be behaving. I quite like the pace, it's refreshing. Had a play with a Lancia Delta Integrale before, it must have been standard as it wasn't able to keep up on the dual carriageway. Nice car though!

Time to start with the rest of the mods. Still got brakes, beam and a few odds and ends to go. I need to sort the bodywork and put my Rallye stickers back on. Smile

Haven't touched this in a while but bumping in the spirit of the forum lol.

I have managed to gain a fuel leak which is quite annoying. can't seem to see where it's coming from but it's annoying nonetheless. Could've done without it as the HDi packed up tonight and could've done with taking it to work but haven't done enough miles to trust it yet as such. Not that I believe anything will go wrong but when you've emptied an engine bay and reinserted all new bits you tend to be a bit reserved with trust!

Ok so its been ages since an update.

car was working well for about a month after the mot, until one sunday night I went for a hoon in september. I had been giving it death for most of my 20 mile loop and was coming upto the a16, an arrow straight single carraigeway which is pretty busy on sunday nights. Having joined, I went to overtake a car (and to go and play with a porsche) and the wheels spun up at 50. Thought it was a bit odd so pulled back into the traffic and looked down to see the temp solid at 90. Having been giving it death, and looking at the gauge reading 80 not 15 seconds earlier my suspicions were aroused. The penny then dropped, the gauge was reading air temp... checked the heaters and yup, stone cold. the wheelspin was coolant going all over my wheels. With nowhere safe to pull over I had to drive almost 2 miles at 50 to nurse it somewhere I wasnt going to become roadkill. Once I pulled over, what was left of the coolant was trickling onto the floor. I was 4 miles from home so I limped it home with a combination of building up speed and killing the engine to coast for half a mile at a time on quiet back roads.

I killed it once getting to my street and pushed it to the house. Got the lower rad hose reseated and filled it with hot water to even out the cooling down. 3 mins later the hose popped again. Fearing the worst I pushed it on the drive and then later onto the road, for what turned out to be a couple of months. Was trying to sell the house, sold the tvr, ordered a new car, spent 3 weeks away over xmas, motd the hdi and found time just kept passing. Whilst I was away some s**tbag did this:

Recent events at work reminded me to enjoy your passions to the full. I contemplated breaking it but then I remembered how epic it is to drive, so tonight I found time and got around to filling it back up and starting it up. Imagine my relief when it started and ran up to fan temp gradually with no dramas. Need to re bleed it but step 1 is passed.

So thats the last few months! Need to move it to rugby then modify it more! That brings us up to an hour ago!

Glad to hear you're not breaking it! Looking forward to taking mine out of hibernation in a couple of weeks, I know what you mean about the driving experience, mine puts a smile on my face every time, even motorway driving seems almost fun.
