Hows it going mate?
Did you transfer over my lightened flywheel as well by the way? Forgot to mention it in the PMs. Only a kilo lighter but was done properly from the outer edge. Still very safe to use.

Well the cars sat on the missus' drive but it didnt get there under its own steam, the clutch has seized and popped the release bearing probably from standing. So its going to have to come back out to get sorted.

The 406 top mounting welded in actually looks neat and tidy. Even with Adams bits still not straight forward iv got two gearbox's and neither are any good. LOL

After the clutch its just the radiator to plumb in. Then put it back together and a general tidy up. il get some pictures tomorrow when its light.

Forgot about the flywheel will check that out.

Adam, did you have a water pipe from the back of the engine to the radiator?

Don't think so. Shame you didn't see the layout of it as it finally worked with the 205 header tank.

My gearbox was fine?! What clutch was that then?

Have to see about that then, im not sure whats seized. A day and i think it would be done. Its just my mate hasnt got a day.

What else of yours could be handy? How much of a job would be the clutch bearing on your box?

I dont know alot about mechanics, if i did id try and do it myself.

just needs a replacement as the clip gave way I believe, though we never took the box off to investigate.

I don't think they are meant to be taken out of the pressure plate once they have snapped into place, it was quite a task doing so LOL

the box went on and off several times in the process of trying to get the mechanism to work.

Just a few pics, quite pleased with the engine mounting.

When the engine comes back out to sort the clutch im planning on giving the engine bay a good clean and spray up the rust thats there.

What are these like compared to a GTi6 then? Worth the hassle or not?

Rich's is over priced Imo, look at other cars you can pick up for that money, granted it's fairly unique but it's still a 306 with not much done other than a different engine in it. I probably would of bought it off him ages ago for about a grand less as it is a good car with a cracking job done of the conversion.

Is that Lee's V6 that he took a foot to in a fit of rage, then Carl saved? Still kicking around then? IIRC Carl did a good job on resurrecting it, so I guess it's sound. Unless it's been buggered since...

Yeah that's the one.

Carl had done a good job sorting it out then by the time went to Rich it had clutch issues, knackered bottom engine mount (rubber part totally missing) and the driveshafts needed attention.

Now those parts are sorted though it does seem like it would be a good car, from what I can gather until he battered it Lee hadn't had a great deal of trouble with it.

I remember seeing Lee's Youtube videos of ragging it but TBH, the engine is a standard unit and therefore capable of massive normal mileage/use/abuse, without fault.

There's no replacement for (OEM) displacement.

Not sure I'd trust long term use/abuse of a modified engine (J4RS) over 20,000+ miles.

Unstressed 2.9 litre FTW.

You'd be surprised how reliable a tuned up 6 lump can be if it's looked after, before I bought his charger Smegal used his boosted for 30k with only minor issues.

But yeh it's not at all difficult to get 210 bhp from a 3.0 engine so it's gotta be low stress and reliable for sure Wink. That one Carl saved seems to be forever for sale. I can't help but be put off thinking that if it was a good car someone would love it surely....

Would love to test out one of these against a low boost Sc'd 6. As said the v6 has low end power and torque but trust me my 6 regularly embarrasses things with more power than that once you get the boost up Big grin

v6 has more torque at 1500 than the 6 has at peak, and it keeps on coming Big grin

Presume the V6 is heavier?

Does it affect the handling at all?
