Well first job for today was to drive 40 miles over to Wigan to pick up some wheels from stey cleary, nice deal as he took the old beam off the Rallye in part ex, cheers Ste
Next job that I've been avoiding for ages was to make a start on stripping the engine........
The head came off fairly easily tbh, there were 2 cap head bolts on the rear cam carrier that had been rounded off, had me worried for a minute then I hammered the next size up hex head in & they both came out a treat
Next I took the sump off, the oil pump & splash tray. By this point I had a box full of bits..
Oh & a couple of manifolds that will be of no further use
Crank & pistons out
Don't forget the shims on No2 main brg, there are 4 shims in total, I nearly missed the 2 in the block but I had spotted th 2 in the cap.
The oil spray bars are held in place with 2 bolts & come out easily.
The block is now fully stripped & ready to go & have the bores opened up for my low compression Wossner pistons.
Tomorrow I'm going to make a start on the head as it did have a slight tap after the last £2000 rebuild when it span a big end. Fingers crossed it won't need much work. Hmm the thought of lapping 16 valves is making my hands sore!
