My spark plugs are due for being replaced (standard peugeot items, part no. 5960.15).

Now that I'm supercharged (approx 50 extra horsies, 0.5bar boost) I want to fit correct temperature rating.

Looking at NGK's guide suggests going one grade colder for each 75-100bhp extra power. So I'm after 7's (one grade colder than standard 6's)

Question is... NGK do both 'BKR7EKC' and 'BKR7EKU', anyone know which one I need? More info on the code here

Alternatively, I can pay a bit extra and go for BKR7EIX Iridiums, and then I don't have this complication!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

didnt the spark plugs get changed during the conversion, which one is it?

No, its a second hand ecosse conversion that I've got on my car, so I still have my standard plugs.

It's not been on the car long, just working my way through the finishing touches.

just looked, low boost seem to use normal plugs, high boost use, NGK iridium high temp plugs.

I use colder ones for my low boost Yes

Off the top of my head i cant remember which ones but im sure its mentioned somewhere in one of the project threads.

Did you just go one heat range colder for low boost? That'd be 7's if you were using NGK plugs...is it your project thread where I would find the answer?

The low boost SC uses grade 7.

I think these (BKR7EIX) are the right ones.

Yes, as Craig's stated you must use either the NGK BKR7EIX's [road use] or the BKR8EIX's [road & track use] on the low boost S/C conversion.

If anything, it's more important to use cooler plugs on the low-boost conversion than the high-boost conversion - this is due to the high compression ratio on the low-boost conversion.

Using standard plugs will cause issues - they are too well instulated, and will retain too much heat during the combustion process, rather than dissipating it out into the head. This means there may be enough heat to set the mixture alight before the spark has even happened.

This results in damage to the head gasket / front of piston crown.

i did read the instructions, about 18months ago LOL

Ahhwell, i will have ngk8s in the car as of next fri, hopefully will have over 400bhp aswell Smile

I run ngk 6 in mine, because of the turbo they need to be that much colder, running really well with them in, rich why dont the high boost run 6's aswell? different heat build up?

I run bcr8es in my road lbsc, my race hbsc and have done with every previous race engine as track n road rr swear by them. They are rs turbo plugs and cost me less than �2 each!

On the heat range for the plugs, some brands scale the other way to NGK.

With NGK, the higher the number the cooler the plug.

Some other brands, the lower the number, the cooler the plug. So, they may well be a cool plug, depending if they are NGK or not.

I have always used NGK Iridium 8's in my LBSC Smile

Rich, would running 8's rather then 7's for a LB make much of a difference? Even if the mapped car was running 7's?

Smegal, for the oil i personally would be changing it at something like a normal interval for a non boosted car, i.e. somewhere between 6k and 10k depending on usage.

I change mine annually regardless of milage (normally about 2 - 3k a year)
