Thinking of doing some road rallies so I'm thinking about using MILLERS 10/60 oil because of the prolonged running time of some of these events. Will 10/60 be ok in a 6 lump. |

i have valvoline 10w60 in mine and seems perfect, oil temp seems to stay down more with hard driving and engine is nice and smooth!________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

Why do you want to put -60 grade oil in when the recommended grade is -40? Stick to a dash 40 grade and if you really want to spend some money buy Red Line 5w-40. If the engine get hot fit a better oil cooler and rad simple. |

The 60 grade stays more viscous at a higher temperature thats all, however a 5w-60 is bad as it'll be too thin at lower temperatures!Wants to be a 10w-60 imo. ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! well see i tried it as the problem i had was my car was grand when cold but when it got hot would tick say between 1500 and 3500rpm so i thought a higher viscosity oil would help (few people here actually said it might help) but it made no difference, but after having the head done theres not a bit of noise from the engine, but i just kept that oil in anyway... i was never having any problem with the oil overheating but just meant that with this oil the oil temp actually stays down a bit lower under hard driving than the 10w40 did, but thats surely a good thing id of thought?________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

Mines a track car and i always use 10w-60 keeps the temps lovely and low when caning it! 10w-40 just didn't cut it when on track it overheated after 2 laps at the most, can't see 10w-60 doin any harm in a road car either though....________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! That is complete nonsense. Oil thins as it gets hotter- even the best oil heated from 40 and 100 deg c thins out to 1/8th of the starting viscosity- all the data is readily available form the oil companies. I suggested the redline 5w-40 as it is 15cst at 100 deg and will not sheer down with use- that is already thicker than the factory fill. Part of the job of the oil in the engine is to cool it- therefore lower temps may mean the oil is conducting away less heat. The thickness of the oil is related to tolerances in then engine. -60 oil will be too thick and you run the risk of oil starvation in some areas of the engine at high engine speed. Just because you drive a car on the track does not mean the engine is different or has different requirements. If you car is overheating you need to improve the cooling, sticking in thick oil in the car will not improve the problems and will overall make the situation worse. |

All i'm trying to say is the 10w60 deals with the heat better, ie deals with the stresses of hard driving better by maintaining its lubrication qualities at a higher temperature, i'm not suggesting sticking a thicker oil in that would be suicide! I've probably put that all wrong as i'm out on a callout and tired but you probably get what i mean! lol ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! I have an oil cooler yet it does get hot around the 110c mark. I had water in my oil because of the head, so i had another head fitted, the new oil does still have some water inside it because of this, so would this be the reason why my oil is around the 110 mark when driving ? I am going to change the oil once iv done 500 miles with the new head/oil. Cheers. ________________________________________ Pug fee`ver,Pick a Bogey, buy a Pug. If the oil is too thick for the engine it will not lubricate it well. Its quite simple there is an optimum thickness of oil for the engine and its best to use that. there is also an optimum temperature for the engine and its best to achieve that. Dumping expensive thick oil in the enigne improves neither. |

My 10/50 Silk pro race oil is thin so im sure 10/60 can be thin depending on the manufacturer, not all oil is the same.________________________________________ Pug fee`ver,Pick a Bogey, buy a Pug. I've always used Total quartz 7000 10W40 in mine, i got a 19 row oil cooler fitted and still get to about 125*c on track. I replace the oil after each time on track or 5000 miles, got fed up with buying little 5 litre bottles all the time so bought a 20 litre drum from AEP along with a load of oil filters Does anyone know off-hand what size washer i need for the engine sump plug? I ordered a load with the above order but i must have chose the wrong ones as they are much smaller ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

Oil only lasts up to a year at its best quality when the bottle has been opened. It will last ten years when it has not been opened. Opie oils told me this info BTW.________________________________________ Pug fee`ver,Pick a Bogey, buy a Pug. Black 306 GTI 6 Standard, was 60k mileage, bargain!!
