I have a slight but frankly annoying problem. I had a squeak from my front offside wheel. I suspected it was a sticking caliper as the wheel was hard to rotate when jacked up. I've stuck a refurbed set of calipers on the front but to my dismay the fecking squeak is still there.

Warped disc? It doesn't vibrate under braking though but I'm wondering what else it could be.

Squeak is more noticeable when slowly turning left, but vanishes if I gently rest my foot on the brake pedal...

Its a rotational squeak, rather than a constant squeal. new discs and pads should sort it out

Copper grease on the back of the pads stopped mine squeaking , They vibrate in the Calliper without grease. but this was only when braking.

brake flexi colapsed inside causing it to hold slight pressure on that calliper

I should have said I replaced the flexis at the same time as I'd read about the pipes collapsing.

The wheel is under braking force. I jacked up the offending side yesterday and ran it in gear, and it obviously span, but as soon as I dipped the clutch, the wheel stopped instantly. Also when the wheel was rotating in the air, I sprayed a quick squirt of wd40 ( a SMALL squirt, I do know what oil+brakes equals) and the squeak instantly vanished. Until the oil burnt off.

I have the same issue! Angry

Same wheel, and this little squeak only pops up here and there, but go's if i lightly touch the brake.

Oh the joys of a 10 year old Pug. Smile

sounds like a sticky M/C or sticky brake pedal from the checks you have done.

Right, the f*cking squeal is still there and it is time to put a match into the filler neck soon...

Here's what I've done...

Replaced brake calipers - in case of sticky piston
Replaced hoses - in case of collapsed hose
Replaced discs - in case they are warped
Plentiful copper grease on the back of the pads

Squeal is still there, and it is more noticeable when turning left, and ONLY affects the drivers side front.

When I have taken everything apart, I notice I have a split CV boot drivers side, could this be a factor? I have read that the symptom is clicking/clunking if it is dried out?

Am I right in thinking to do wheel bearing next?

Answers on a postcard please...Sad

The noise was constant when the drivers side wheel bearing went on my old diablo. Leave it too long and it will start to rumble. Looks like you have eliminated everything else Dunno

I have exactly the same problem with a squeak coming from the driver's side front wheel. It goes away when I press the brake pedal. I replaced the flexi hoses and copper greased the rear of the pars. Funnily enough, my driver's side CV gaiter has also a small split in it.

I've worked mine out to be a problem with the master cylinder/servo as the brakes keep sticking on and the wheel requires quite a bit of effort to spin it when the car is jacked up.

Greenbelt, did the noise go away when you applied the brakes?

Nope, it was always a constant squeak that eventually turned into a rumble.

Gilesy, is there any cv grease on the inside of your front drivers wheel or around the lower engine mount? If you are losing cv grease you will see it around these areas

In that case clean up as much grease as possible before the mot. You might get away with an advisory if everything else is ship-shape.

Ok, thought I'd transpose the drivers side pads to the passenger side and vice versa. What I did find that the pads, replaced by Carl at the same time, were 2mm thinner on the drivers side. So as I was doing this out in the rain, and with no g-clamp to push piston in, I just changed one pad over.

Without the pads on I span the wheel, it didn't squeak but I guess if it is the bearing, it may only manifest itself when its warm. I did try and see if there was any play but there was none apparent.

Let's see what the MOT throws up...
