Gents,

I'm trying to remove the exhaust heatshield under the fuel tank just in front of the rear beam. It's attached with these w*nky plastic screw things and when you turn them they don't un-thread. Roll eyes

Is there a secret technique to removing these? Unsure

Any quick answers would be much appreciated as the car is on axle stands and I would rather it didn't remain so for too much longer. Smile

my ones you just held the outer ring then wound the middle out, screw unwinds ¼ of an inch the you can wiggle them out. couple where jammed and got pulled out then replaced

Stuff like this really p*sses me off. They are not coming out at all. They just continue to spin. The base attached to the fuel tank is not spinning so I don't see why they won't come out.

What exactly is wrong with metal screws and some form of captive nut? Onion-munching tosseurs. Dry

Any better ideas before I cut them off?

Epic thread bump, but once you managed to get these off could you reuse them again or did you need new ones? Dunno

    Pretty sure the idea is you push them in, screw them up and as you do they splay out and hold themselves in place, hence how if you can unscrew them and carefully pull them out they can be re-used, although they'll probably always be a little loose afterwards.
