MOT time today. Wasn't too concerned TBH, but its always good to have your work checked over by someone who knows what they are doing.

It passed without a hitch. The headlights needed tweaking upwards as lowering the car slightly had made them a tad low. Jamie, the MOT Tester was full of praise as well.

I'd managed a whole 1400 miles since the last Mot as well.

LOL
As if it was going to fail!!!!!Roll eyes

Just clocked over 5000 miles in my Rallye since got it on road in FebuaryBig grin

I am gathering parts round me for some paintwork in the Autumn, and in that pile of bits are a pair of new Foglights, as when i get the bumper painted, theres no way im putting the 100k miles old chipped ones bac in, so...

In view of our forthcoming euro trip to Spa and the 'ring, i'd throw some "Frenchness" at the existing fogs.

Looks ok as a temporary measure and it takes all of 1 minute to remove with thinners..

Credit to you my freind, that is one f*cking awesome looking car. You have given me so much inspiration for my 6/sedan mongrel. I have had a close eye on this thread for a while.
I have been trying to think of some way to bring some colour to the front end as astor grey can be a bit bland with Chrome lights. You just hit the nail on the head with those yellow fogs! Would you mind if I copied you as it looks fapping ace? Did you have buy some yellow lens paint or can you buy the fogs in yellow from France?

Thank you for the enormous compliment Dan. The fog lights have been painted with some yellow glass paint, off ebay - couple of quid from memory.

I did have the car for sale a couple of weeks back, and took a deposit of a close friend almost immediatly. Its been a while now and i'm certain that he cant get the insurance cheap enough so i have decided to refund his deposit and keep the car. He's happy enough with this as well. My missus has convinced me that i'd be a fool to let it go as well. SO, it'll be with me quite a while longer. Some plans are afoot to get it ready for some trackdays, i have a set of C5 "steelies" and propper genuine bolts, just need an oil cooler and some R888's.

More updates soon i hope.

Christ on a bike.... lets have an update!!

I purchased some C5 steelies off the welsh pocket rocket AKA Spiky some time ago, and finally got round to doing something with them. They were painted a nice shade of electrolux white as in the pic..

I cleaned them all with Bilberry wheel cleaner, and scuffed them up with a scotchpad.

Once scuffed up i gave them a good coat of Bilt Hamber Etch primer.

Once primed, I painted them in Steel Silver, then 2 coats of laquer.

These are the much fabled C5 wheel bolts/fitting kit!Cool Cool

So, the upshot of a couple of hours in the garage is I have 3 wheels painted, one in primer (run out of bloody silverRoll eyes ), and some nice bargain Toyo R888's coming next Tuesday.

Need to get the oil cooler ordered next, and get the bumper off to fit it properly, and source some better track biased pads. Im thinking DS3000's as i have always been very heavy on brakes on trackdays in the past 11 years.

Ta, just a tad darker than the normal "alloy wheel silver" which can look a bit ott blingy.

The Citroen C5 wheels are all painted now, managed to find a set of Peugeot Partner van centre caps to fit (when using them on the road LOL)

Next thing that has always bugged me is the way the rear silencer is visable under the back of the car, like thus..

So, in order to "subtle" it up a bit, i whipped the rear box off the car..

Scuffed it up, etch primed it then painted it with 3 coats of VHT satin black paint.

Leaving a before and after of....

Next job is the group N lower engine mount bush (Baker Bushes one), with a genuine Pug top engine mount, both going on Tuesday evening.

The oil cooler kit should be here mid week, so that will mean the bumper off and some carefull positioning / measuring going on soon.

Laugh

Think my back box has had a new tip at some point, it's on wonky. The tip is lined up straight now bu the box looks to be hanging squinty.

Might paint mine black too, saying that I'm looking for a new tip as mine's all corroded and 'orrible looking. Shame as the back box is in good nick itself.

Tonights fun filled activity was to change the engine mounts, both lower and upper. I opted for the "group N" Baker lower bush to replace the "group f*cked" one that was on it. The one that came off was torn on the one side so was as much use as tits on a fish.

The upper one was replaced with a genuine new Pug mount, pleased to report no cracks in the chassis mount either!!

Initial impressions are it feels more "mechanical" when its revved up, not that many more vibrations on tickover. It reminds me of my old Escort RS Turbo with Vibratechnics mounts in.

Going to give it a roadtest later on and see if it feels better without the engine flopping about.

Just had half hour in the car, now with brutal gear changes and harsh on/off throttle gives a much more solid feeling, before you could feel the whole engine move.

Downside is the vibration. Not too bad on tickover but 1200 - 1400 rpm does make itself felt through the whole car. Have i read somewhere that the Baker bushes eventually settle down and soften up a tiny amount?? Hope i have LOL!

Eitherway its liveable and will be a lot better on track where you are on/off the gas a lot more than on the road.

Not quite yet Dan, i've got some Federal 595 RS-R trackday tyres on order, once those have been fitted i'll get some pics up.

I did try the bare wheel on the car the other night, and they just look small, compared to the 16" Compomotives. Not a huge amount of brake clearance either...Unsure

Erm, not quite got round to that. In all fairness all ive done recently is fit a 19 row oil cooler and stat, and get it ready for its first full trackday, which happens to be this coming sunday at Donington Park.

Full day, open pit lane, so im going to get as much track mileage as possible, and, you'll see the pics of it, looking all pikey, on the steelies from the day.

Fitted some beefier pads as well, so im hoping it stays dry and i can use the 888's properly.

About time we had an update.

It was about this time last year that i started the suspension / beam rebuild on the shitter and at the time I decided that i'd like to go to the same lengths in the engine bay.

Yes i'd made a superficial effort to tidy the bay up with moderate success, however its only going to be possible by stripping the bay empty of mechanicals and starting from scratch.

I'd also got a niggling weep of oil from the rear main oil seal so i may as well strip it and refresh the engine as well.

Got some pics of what ive been doing so far.

Engines out and stripped on the bench, Start of at the bottom and work up.

Sump fixing bolts before and after.

The sump itself has been cleaned, prepped, etch primed, painted and then laqured, along with the sump plug being Zinc plated

Rear water housing before and after.

Before

After

Front plate that supports the engine loom / water pipe

Before

After

More soon.....
