Todays job was to sort out the exhaust swap, and then dismantle and re-assemble the rear suspension at a less chav like ride height.

According to what ive read on here about 205/309/306 Peugeot group n cars, they even when lowered should have the same angle of rake as the road cars, ie slightly nose down, so thats what ive done.

In true terms it had only been lowered 30mm at the back but visually it looked lot more, so with the new measurements its now only 15mm lower than standard, but with the bigger wheels it looks fine.

Heres some befores and afters..

Before.

After

And one after of the drivers side.

No pics of a standard exhaust as we all know what one of those looks like.

Going to road test it later, see if it feels better.

It will feel much better, and you wont get any problems with understeer either. Mine handled so much better when i had the back raised slightly.

You are spot on there. Had a good few days use of it now and its absolutley fantastic. Im amazed how good the ride is on the B8's/Eibachs & B6/VTS TB rear. Even with the wife and kids in, its never harsh or even feels that much stiffer than the OE stuff. Whats noticable is it changes direction a bit keener than before, and thats even before i get it 4 wheel aligned (booked for next tuesday).

Just gotta get to the bottom of a slight reluctance to start immediatly from cold (compared to before the engine bay tidy up). Ive changed the crank sensor for a new Genuine Pug one, might swap the cam sensor next for a good used one see if that cures it. Once started its fine and drives better than before.

Sounds like it could be the cam sensor. If not get it plugged in. I spent years trying to sort out an idle issue, changing sensors and never got to the bottom of it. Got it plugged in and never had a problem since. With regards to the boomy exhaust try and get something made up at longlife. My old china had a custom system that i specified and it was perfect. Not too loud, not boomy on overun or motorway drives. It was mint! All these project threads are making me hunger for a rallye even more now.... LOL

Maybe it is the way foward. Well with guidance like this project it makes me think I could do most of it myself even more so now.

Thanks mate - honestly give it a go. Most things on the Pugs are easy to do, and theres always enough FAQ's on here to help.

I think im getting somewhere with the cold start issue also - tonight i noticed (cars been sat all day) that on the first turn of the key the fuel pump didnt prime, it started after turning over for a couple of seconds, after that the pump primed everytime with the ignition, so im going to change the fuel pump relay first, then if that don't cure it, wack a new pump in.

What a cracking project!! Only downside is that it puts me to shame when i see your 6. Your attention to the details is also incredible.

I wish I could get my 6 of the road for a few weeks this summer to have a good engine bay clean as you did but unfortunately it's the only car i have and i don't think i'm confident enough to do this all by myself Sad

When are you coming to Spa Francorchamps by the way??? As I only live 40 minutes away from there, i would love to see your beauty in the flesh as well as meeting you and have a good chat. Let me know Thumbs up

Marco, we will be at Spa for a 2 day trackday on 18th & 19th of July. We're going to the 'ring on the 20th for the day, then heading for home on the 21st. Should put another 1500 - 1600 miles on the clock LOL.

My Knob.

Has had 11 years of use by pre-dominantly mens left hands. It has remained fairly intact but the leathery surface has started to show signs of wear and the whole knob in general was a dissapointment to me.

I used to hold it (in my left hand) and think - my Knob could be so much better. I had looked at having it refurbished but couldnt find anyone skilled enough to take on the challenge to my exacting standards.

Of course i have cleaned it every now and again but it still felt aged and tired.

Anyway - some pics of it, in its sorry state...

Shocking isn't it?

So, ive swallowed hard and obtained a new one...

Here they are side by side..

Having fitted it, it feels much nicer to hold....

Ha ha ha.

No real updates to speak of, the previous owner had fitted a new Nissens rad just before i got the car, but had re-used the original 1999 vintage bottom hose, and guess whats been oozing?

So, new genuine Pug pipe and some more antifreeze mix and away we went. Pipe came out of the rad a piece of p*ss and it was just the troublesome bleeding that took the time. All done now, ready for the MOT next tuesday...Blink Blink

It had £11,000 spent on the shell at a resto companyCrazy
Full bare metal respray,3 photo albums full of photos complete with folders detailing every nut/bolt removedCrazy
I had it a while then decided to do a full underside restorationWink
Thats when I found the rotAngry bulkhead was rotten just below screen, battery tray, floorpans, sills.
And add to that the Bluesprint built engine that was specced to run 500bhpRoll eyes had no oil pressure at idleAngry
It only ran 406bhp for 6 months, the previous 14,000 miles was on greens, circa 330bhpRoll eyes
So cut my losses and sold off the decent parts then the rolling shellSad

MOT time today. Wasn't too concerned TBH, but its always good to have your work checked over by someone who knows what they are doing.

It passed without a hitch. The headlights needed tweaking upwards as lowering the car slightly had made them a tad low. Jamie, the MOT Tester was full of praise as well.

I'd managed a whole 1400 miles since the last Mot as well.
