can anyone tell me the complete in's and out's of doing a v6 conversion to a xsara/306??

what mounts are used? and what drive shafts? is there any cutting and shuttingto do? what parts get swapped around etc?? and what transmisson, loom parts etc are used?

i just sold my xsara vts last week, so i DO NOT have any intention of doing a 2.0L 16v conversion

thanks in advance

right just briskly read through adamb's project thread...still sort of vague on how to do it fully.

it doesnt mention sll the engine mounts he used, and only mentions the drivers side shaft, not passenger side. also it doesnt say what alternator, pas pump etc to use

LOL @ the pain ahead
Ok, well you cut and shut the 406 inner shafts to the outer 306 to keep the abs, or just shorten the 406 ones if you don't want it. Both sides.

Alternator and PAS pump are the 406 ones, although depending on the mounts you use you might need a high pressure pipe making up to clear the exhaust manifold.

Mounts:

SES ally 205 mount (ebay) for a 205 spaced up on a baker BM group N 306 rubber.
Gearbox mount uses 406 spike and shortened spacer with the 306 rubber.
Rear mount is 406 on to the 306 fork, but i'm using a solid mount to stop the shafts hitting the subframe.

Most people chop the front crossmember and top mount out, then weld in the 406 top mount and a bit of steel further forward for a crossmember. My subframe is chopped more as my engine is further back, but the weight is better positioned.

Clutch and wiring are the hardest parts. Oh and the exhaust downpipe is a bit of a git too.

Make me an offer for mine - its currently for sale and has a few more choice bits on it Smile

well to be honest its not a 306 the conversion is being done on...but based on a 306 Big grin

but need to have a look at all the options...and the engine source is a 406 v6 coupe at a breakers who my mate deals with alot. so just need to see what year it is, to see if its the earlier type (D8) you speak of.

also checked ebay and there is no SES alloy 205 mount. so any other options?

cheers for all the info mate!

You can use a D9, but the wiring is a pain and you need aftermarket management, that means you can stick a clio V6 engine instead though if you're doing that anyway - it fits on the ML5 gearbox Wink

Berlingo..?

Not just the wiring on the D9, there's quite a few other things that get in the way too

Yes, take all the PAS pipes as well as the engine, shafts, box, ecu, immobiliser and keys. It might work without needing the ECU needing to be unlocked. And you might need the downpipe and cat. Cut the top engine mount completely out if you are going to use it with the extra brace rod thing as well. Thats a manual I think isn't it?

What rad and fans are you going to use?

The cheaper more powerful route will turn out to be a lot more expensive. But you will see more power with the standalone ECU you'll have to use.

Go the D8 way and there is info on doing it all, the D9 you are on your own for about 25%. Mostly wiring and figuring out small issues like how to open the throttle butterfly as its fly-by-wire LOL

Oh as its a diesel estate you'll want to look at the fuel pump, filter and have a custom exhaust made up.

You'll need brakes as well i'd have thought Wink

Had a brief chat with Pug1off. Of course they where vague as they probably want me to bring the car and let them do the conversion!

So can someone please do a bullet point, reasonably detailed method on how to do it! Sizes to cut shafts to, what looms to use, what has to be relocated, what mounts to use etc

If someone could do it, it could be made a sticky and save hassle for people in long run!
