I have been looking in to this recently but putting the v6 in to a off road race buggy space frame not another car, As it stands I have the later d9 with vvt sitting in the buggy but can not get a spark with the complete loom with all the security bits etc (I see no reason why it will not work in a space frame as opposed to a folded up tin box) but something not quite right, I am willing to pay good money to anyone who could sort this out for me!!!!!!!! As back up I bought 2 D8 non vvt engines cut down looms decoded ecu's etc etc (and 4 cut down drive shafts for a 306 conversion which will be for sale) at the weekend to put one in if the vvt is a no go.
Some people keep saying about a stand alone ecu for the vvt engine but from what I have found out it will not work properly. I spoke to Emerald who were vauge about how it would work the vvt and eventully when pushed they told me to speak to pug1off who told me about the mods needed to the fly by wire and the fact that the ecu is not ment for a vvt engine so they had used the part of the ecu that should work a turbo to work the vvt.
The problem is the vvt should be worked by the revs and engine load but it can not be done with the Emerald ecu (and I assume others in the £600 price range)it can only control it based on the engine revs and he admitted it did not feel quite right which I would thing means maybe flat spots. Not paying out good money for a set up that will not work as good as the peugeot ecu that comes with the car.
I need to get this buggy up and running for the start of the season and some testing time so the end of January is my aim, if I can not get the VVT engine electrics sorted out I will have to go with the older engine and keep trying with the VVT engine whilst it is out of the buggy.
So if there any electrical wizz kids out there who want to make some easy money Please PM me.
Lee.
