I know, they're not to my usual standards! They've been sat in the garage all winter so the paint's cracked and flaked off while i was working on them

Not long to go now. Just need to make up a pipe to complete the vacuum system, silicone the area under the idle sliders, make a plenum like Yanni's, modify a TPS and that's it! Cool

And yes, i know trumpets would be better. And so would a sausage filter. Accoustic pleasure ftw though Razz

Definitly getting there, oviously you already know those filters arent the best but better than getting crap in the engine.

with the backing plate you are best off getting some thin steel and make your own then just buy a universal filter to suit.

Only other thing I would do is whip them back apart and replace all those nuts for pieces of tube cut to size, it'll only take a few mins now you know the sizes and will look better and make 100% sure they are clamped together

The bolts are all locked up tight, no gaps and threadlocked at the open end. They're rigid as hell Smile

How does the backing plate attach to the bodies though? Erm?

Happy days then.

Are there no bolt holes anywhere on the front of the bodies?
I'm more familiar with carbs tbh and every set of those I've seen have holes at the top and bottom on the front but I cant see any at the top in your pics.

Nope, they look like they mated yp with the bike airbox by way of a rubber o-ring but can't see anything to bolt a plate to :S

Hold the phone, aye there's bolt holes.clearance is an issue though, because the housing for the idle sliders protrudes forwards from the inlet side of the bodies I won't be able to fit much of a plate, unless I offset it upwards slightly. Might clear the PAS pump then too

the braided hose in your parcel is the ideal size to make a vacume pipe from.
And yep you got stainless manifold bolts Wink

None yet. Can't afford them just now, £400 for cams + cambelt kit + time needed to fit them, a job for the summer i think.

Without trumpets you will more than likely find the bodies flow less well than the standard plenum. I would'nt waste the money on a map until you have some trumpets buddy. And dont for god's sake make a box like Yanni's with a flat plate with holes in the back going straight to the bodies, a step change like that is death to airflow and will cause a huge loss in potential flow. 4x Full radius shiny air horns FTMFW Cool

Fair point davey. As i'm sure i've mentioned already, i'm not in this for gains. Just so I can look at it and say yeah, I built that. Getting the bodies airtight and stable is my first port of call, then will be looking at trumpets and a dome filter. Out of interest, anyone know what size baseplate can be used without fouling the PAS pump?

Don't use socks No

When I was buying bits for my 'bodies I was heavily advised against by many not to use socks!

Buy a normal DCOE backplate and offset it to the right if you are'nt going to move the PAS pump.(Mines 425mm Wide)

+1 on this, not supposed to be very good at all.

Also those trumpets would be a bit pointless really, way too short as they are designed for the bike.

Thats good that you do have bolt holes on the front, should make it quite easy to make and attach a baseplate.

Trumpets may appear short but the inlet tract is alreday quite long so trumpet to valve length would be similar to a setup with a shorter manifold.

Wanted to keep the manifold length as it curves down the way so can fit it under the bonnet. A shorter manifold the way i've done it would point the bodies at the sky.

Grr nothing's easy these days. Got everything I need now to get the bodies fitted and been pricing up fuelling options, the clutch has given up the ghost. Really can't be arsed fitting a new one as I don't have a spare pair of hands and it's baltic outside Sad

Anyway have some pics if you aren't already disgusted enough. First, some shiny touches:

And some sticky touches:

Can't wait for some decent weather to get it cleaned, fit the bodies and do the clutch, think one of my top mounts are nearly dead too with the f*cking potholes round here :dry

Don't like the stickers inside.
