walker_texasranger wrote: Best colour It must be a good colour because even Mrs Tea likes it, and she is notoriously hard to please. So, job one was to get rid of the stupid goonie boy stereo system. All this junk. It seemed a shame to take it out as it was so nicely fitted. Look here. That big red dustbin and the amplifier thing were just rolling about all over the boot, which was nice. It did prove remarkably easy to remove, as despite the use of weapons grade cable, all the connections were just half heartedly twisted together and taped up. One slight tug on them and they all fell apart. Before I start any mechanical work I needed to clean out the inside, as the PO was a real filthy pikey, judging by the state of it. I've taken the seats out and given it a once over. It still neads a bit more work, but it's a start. What's more, he must be a real tight wad, as I only found 35p under the seats. Another reason for removing the seats was... I think I may need to fit the seats from the black one... The PO said 'you'll love driving it' Well, I don't know what he was used to driving but the thing is a feckin death trap. It was MOTd about three months ago, by Stevie Wonder. There is that much play in the wishbone bushes you can move the front wheels back and forth by about two inches. When you drive it, it weaves all over the road, yeah, I loved that... Just as well I bought all the bits for a complete steering and suspension rebuild for the black one then... So, all in all, I have to conclude that the PO is, infact, a complete dildo... But... There is another dildo in this story too, the new owner, for buying it. Though I have to admit; I was secretly half pleased that it needs all of the bits that I have stocked up with for the old one. Well, I like a challenge. ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |

Told you it was a bit of a turd, the seats worn like that as the clutch is so stiff it literally takes the pressure on the seat every time you change gear, I am surprised the cable hasn't snapped its that heavy. You will sort it. When I took the seats out I couldn't unplug the wires to the seatbelt tensioner, they had been soldered together.Carl @mechanicalrepairs tells me this was probably done by Peugeot because the plugs were not very reliable. That's all well and good, but it's a ballache if you want to take the seat out. I thought that I could do something a bit more user friendly. First off, I removed the rear carpet, to clean it and also to give me a bit of free length on the cable. This turned out to be a result as I found 50p under the carpet. I thought I would use one of those plugs you find all over cars these days, the ones with the wire clip that holds them shut. The one I wanted was a junior mini timer plug. I fitted the female one to the car, with a bit of heat shrink on the wires just for a bit more protection. Then with the rubber boot on and the convoluted tube back in place it looks like this. I didn't order any spare ones, so I was mildly annoyed to find that the boot for the other one was faulty. That meant I only got the driver side one done this evening. Moving on to the seats, I fitted the male plugs. Which have the added bonus of clipping to the original plinth under the seat. Almost as though I know what I'm doing. Or perhaps I should have just twisted the wires together and taped them up, like yer man did with the stereo... ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |

Tea, should you require any A pillar trims to hide the hole made by the expertly fitted tweeter I can send you some. They are without the ultrasonic fairings though. ________________________________________ Almost standard 1999 Bianca RallyeHilux InvincibleX daily 306 No.13 Carp and specialist Anglers Click here |

I've been meaning to do something similar to the wires under my seats. The driver's plug is really unreliable.________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |

I got them here. http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/section.php/213/1/junior-timer-connectors You really need the proper crimping pliers to do them, they are not expensive; from the same place. I've not done much as I have been really busy at work, 16 hour shift yesterday. When I looked at the car this evening I found myself lamenting the lack of the GTI 6 badges on the doors on the three phase. Some time ago someone pinched the ones off the back of my black car. I got this to replace it, but hadn't fitted it. I removed the 6 badge from the black car and stuck them both on the new one. I don't know if they look a bit chavvy? I would have preferred some chrome GTI badges but I could only find the later smaller ones, and I don't think they look as good next to the '6' as the large ones do, so red it is. ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |

With the seat air bag wiring finally sorted (replacement rubber boots arrived yesterday), and the freshly scrubbed carpets back in it was time to sort out the seats themselves. At the rear I used the seats from the black car, except the backrest for the driver's side. The squab on the driver side is a combination of the upholstery from the black car fitted to the metal base from the blue car. The base that was on it had some rust showing, so I stripped off the upholstery. It was quite simple to get off, you just pop it out of the groove. The new metal base had a few dings in it, so I straightened them out a bit first. In particular the hole had been distorted where that big stud thing in the floor locates. It turned out that a 30mm impact socket was just the right size to use as a dollie to re shape it. they don't look too bad now that they're in. I used both front seats from the black car. On the driver's seat, the telescopic height adjuster handle doesn't automatically retract anymore. I have the seat set on the lowest setting, ( which is still too high, really), so it is hardly going up and down like a bride's nightie, but it made sense to fit the working one from the other seat. Fitted the seats. Also swapped the gear knob, but retained the original gaitor. I made a start scrubbing the driver side door card but tea time stopped play. Soon have to make a start on the mechanical work. ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |

walker_texasranger wrote: Looking good Tea Thanks mate. RetroPug wrote: Badges look good. Cheers, even Mrs tea said they looked ok. This evening I finished scrubbing the doorcards. I bought some dettol multi surface cleaner as it was on offer for a quid and I have been using it to scrub all the interior plastics, it works very well. I did the driver's side first. I used some of that foam upholstery cleaner on the fabric bit of the doorcard and the dettol stuff on the rest of it. I then jet washed it all off. The fabric came up great as it was filthy to start with, the plastic came up good too but the handle part turned white! I went to the shop and bought some proper car cleaning stuff to do the other doorcard for full up pay through the nose money to do the passenger side one. That b**tard turned white too! After a root through the cupboard I found some tyre foam, worth a try I thought as the handles feel a bit 'rubbery', and luckily they turned black again. Someone in the past has changed the driver's door handle, you can tell by the crap rattle can paint job on it. When you open the door, the handle sticks a bit and you have to push it the rest of the way down. I will either change it or paint it properly at some point, but whilst I had the doorcards off I thought I might aswell have a look. The rod which comes up from the door catch was held in with some kind of blu tak stuff. I decided it would be better if I just took out the little plastic clip which the rod locates in and re fit it the right way round. That way I don't have to take down one of the nipper's one direction posters to nick any more blu tak. Honestly, some people should just leave things well alone. ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |

I spent ages peeling off the old 6 badge from the door, sticking it to double sided tape and trimming round it with a scalpel. Then all the measuring and marking out with masking tape to re fit it... When I came inside and looked on the forum yer man had just announced the reproduction ones. Anyway, I think the red in the repros goes better with the red GTI badges. What do you think? ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |

I have to be honest, I've not had much chance to do anything with the old rattler.Little bits have been happening here and there which should hopefully all come together. I need to change the clutch but when I brought the car home it had a bit of a whine on the gearbox. The 'box in the old black car was quiet but second gear synchro was becoming tired. I could have bought a used 'box I suppose, but in the end, I swapped this bit. At least I know it will (or at least it should) work ok. ________________________________________ Make tea, not war.If it ain't broke......fix it until it is. |
