Jim recommended me a place out chesterfield way, it's just for a power run then we know what we're starting with power wise and I know it's all perfect and ready to rock.

Brakes fitted:

I can't help but think I've got an issue with my charger, it is always leaking oil from the canister breather cap, even if it was overfilled it would of found its own level a long time ago by now and wouldn't still be leaking it out as though it was overfilled.
I was told if there was an issue with the oil supply it would of seized a long time ago, but I hardly use it and it's getting noisyer each time i start it from cold, sounds like a pulley bearing is f**ked but they havnt done much mileage and it goes away he warm, it could be the belt sticking to a roller but my low boost one did that and it sounded more of a squeak than anything and it went when I cleaned the rollers.
Here is what the pulley area sounds like from cold:

And here 5-10 mins later when the noise has subsided to its lowest:

Brakes look goodThumbs up

That noise is not niceNo

That one pulley looks very close to inner wing too,I would be keeping an eye on that after a track day/good blast etc, engines move about more than you think under heavy cornering/high torque through themWink

There 8 rib pulleys mate not the usual 6 rib, that's why it looks closer than usual, because it's wider.

Live update from the last ten minutes:

So 2 rollers have seized up and snapped the belt, I'm kinda glad because now I know why I think the power was zapped, it had nothing low down compared to before and felt lethargic high up to me.
This is why, it will have been using a good lump of power just to turn the belt I reckon.

And the towing eye seems to have done a excellent job, I'll check it behind tmmrw but I'm confident it's solid and better than the standard one if anything.

it was weird how it panned out, there was a rope next to where it broke down, it snapped 300 yards down the road.
As i got out the car after it snapping a guy in a green discovery pulled up, threw one of those stretchy proper towing ropes, then drove off, I didn't even get chance to say thanks, before I knew what he'd done, he'd gone. Awsome guy, goes round doing good deeds and doesn't even want thanking, he has restored my faith in the human kind.
All in all, broke down 4 miles from home an was back in ten mins thanks to disco guy and my jock freind from work.

hopefully when the map sensor wire snapped off it cut the engine before any cambelt damage.

It happened to a Gti6 powered 309 at Pugfest couple of years ago, going up the hillThumbs down

Plenty of room between pulley and chassis when the car was sat still, but you could see the mark on the chassis where it had shifted over and touchedYes
Chucked the aux belt which then took out the cambeltSad

All the pulleys are free, alternator and p/s is also free.
It hasn't touched the bulkhead there's no marks there anyway, I was also going steady when it happened, if all the pulled are free why was it making that noise before, hopefully the noise was a knackerd belt.

im pretty sure the noise it was making was the belt slipping rather than a pulley making the noise.

belt alignment is critical.. a few degrees out and you have sheared rubber. I use a weighted string wrapped around the pulley to determine belt alignment.

when it happened, I was in a 30 going really steady, it sounded like I was driving through a load of grit, I then realise there was an issue put it in neutral and rolled around a junctIon, I stopped and went to turn her off, she cut out as my hand was just about on the key, I think or hope this was the point where it pulled the map sensor wiring snapping it in half and cutting the engine.
Cambelt off tmmrw to check timing eg, maybe a new cambelt would be a good idea aswell.
I'm tempted to send the charger off to be tested/checked over by rotrex.

how do you go about aligning the belt? I thought the pulleys was either on or off?
