the past 2-3 weeks i've been looking to buy a run about until the rallye is finished, but thats all im coming up with is cars fitted with GMax suspension, are these cars cheap because like me nobody wants to risk driving a car with them fitted or is it coinsidence?

My reasons for not liking them, I bought a golf with them fitted it saw a corner and started to lean, i sold the car on, the new owner didnt get home 1 spring snapped (springs were 8 months old) cos of the person i am i gave the guy some cash to get it fixed which left me short from the sale, I also have the opinion if someone is going to scrimp and fit cheap springs what else has gone over looked? i also think like this when cheap budget tyres are used

Would you be put off from buying a car with GMax fitted ?

Same here, had them on my Xsara for about 6 months and never caused a problem.
I also fitted a set to a friends fiesta si years ago and they were on that car for well over a year again with no troubles.

Its more than likely that these cars are cheap as they are lowered, that tends to put people off in general in my experience.
In answer to the question, Gmax suspension certainly wouldnt stop me buying a cheap motor if the rest of the car is good.

I had Gmax shocks/springs on the black one,had no issues like leaking shocks and snapped springs but they are very harsh on anything but the smoothest roads. Had Koni on the Sigma and it drove mucho nicer Thumbs up

I had G-max all round on my D-turbo lowered about 30mm was lovely to drive but the back shocks are a bit on the hard side. However i've got OMP ones on my 6 on the front and they are lovely, but got some G-max ones on the rear atm as a temp measure untill i get some better ones and it seems the lower you go the harder they are. My 6 is lowered approx 45mm on the rear and the back end is so solid it bounces round any corners with even a slight bump... not pleased with the handeling atm, be going to raise her up to 30mm drop soon and bilstein rear shocks or similar i think.

must just be our roads in west wales then, gmax dont seem to last long at all, on the local sites im always reading about someone with a snapped lowering spring then the question is asked 'what make were they?' and they are always GMax

Phil on here that used to own mine bought some 30mm GMax springs. The car ended up sitting nearer 50mm lower, which after a couple years totally knackered the front suspension ( I bought the car on 63k)

So Thumbs down from me

I personally reckon the shocks are better than the springs, when I first got mine it was -60mm on Gmax shocks and springs, I then had it raised to -40mm on spax springs and the ride was good tbh, as in you wouldn't really want to change it. I then went to kKW v2s

i was told to avoid gmax as there quite cheap and you get what you pay for, cheap coilovers can mean not so strong threads.....
