Rear beam time. I was dreading this point as I have heard lots of horror stories about the state some have been when taken apart. Luckily this rear beam was in very good condition inside (although a pig to get apart – bloody torsion bars!).

We have replaced the bearings and seals, give it a coat of paint (if you could not have guessed) and we are currently in the process of reassembly (at the minute this is a nice piece of furniture in the front room).
Need to get some solid rear mounts (looking to give you an order at some point daveyboy!) then it will be fitted back to the car – when this snow clears)

Sanded tube:

Painted:

Snow has caused a standstill like most of Britons roads!

Looking good!

Did you change the rear ARB or the torsion bars at all?

Good to see another track car being done properly Smile

Did you fit the bearings yourself or get somewhere to do it?

Hi, we replaced the bearings ourselves - make a bearning puller with some threaded bar and large sockets (+ plenty of grease). Was quite easy work in the end.

Waiting for some parts for the rear beam so we started to look at engine bay wiring yesterday & today. We were planning to do battle on the ABS wiring (we have removed ABS from the car). We spent hours finding the ABS wiring diagrams and marking wires to cut, only to find that the ABS wires are on a separate wiring harness

Whilst we are waiting for some bits to finish the rear beam we turned our attention to the gearbox. Firstly we repaired the small leak on the speedometer housing (new seals). The in true spirit of our build we cleaned the gearbox and painted it!

The gearbox to start with:

After a bit of elbow grease:

A few coats of black heat proof paint:

And a few red bits added:

I was not planning to, going to use 1 port for the fronts and 1 port for the rears - through the bias valve.
Is there a reason to use a non-abs cylinder?

yep same here, works fine

front port = front brakes to a T piece
rear port = one line into cabin down the tunnel, to a bias valve, out to a T piece splitting to both rear wheels

In between the rain and snow we have started to reattach some of the engine components (ie front wiring loom, fuse box, power steering tank, washer bottles & window wipers)

We have also received some more parts for the interior - driver and passenger foot rests:

Hi !

Great build, takes a lot of time and effort I know but it's much more rewarding after ! Keep up the good work and updates !

Picked up a semi-track prepped GTI-6 today, it's stripped but there is lots of remaining (and pointless) wiring..

In this photo there are a few things I'm not quite sure about..
Black box on the floor, just to the right of the middle.. What is it !?
2nd Black box in the Drivers rear ¼, again what is it ?

Cheers, Mart

From what I can remember the one under the rear seats is the central locking control unit and the one in the rear

Nice trackcar! Do you have further plans with the engine or will it be original?

RIghty oh, I don't need them either ! Any Advice on Removing them ?
Cheers..

I generally just drive the Nurburgring in the Summer/end of season, so a whole heap more of that !

Electrically I need to remove the ABS, C/L, Air Bag gubbins, Electric Windows, Rear Wiper/Heater, Air Con, Seat Belt tensioners..Save a bit of weight and make the whole thing alot tidyer !

sounds good!
With regards to removing these boxes I just traced the wires back to the dash ect. and then cut them out. Just remember that the fuel pump wires are in the same bundle so check twice and cut once Big grin
